5 signs your child may benefit from math tutoringโeven if they're not failing. ๐โ
When people hear โmath tutoring,โ they often think of a student who is failing math. But tutoring can be helpful long before a student reaches that point.
Here are 5 things parents can watch for:
1๏ธโฃ Homework is taking forever.
Your student spends a long time working through problems that shouldn't take nearly that long.
2๏ธโฃ They understand it when someone helpsโbut struggle independently.
They can follow along once someone explains it, but don't know where to begin on their own.
3๏ธโฃ They are constantly saying, โI don't understand.โ
Repeated frustration with the same concepts can be a sign that they need a different explanation or more practice.
4๏ธโฃ Their confidence is dropping.
โI hate math.โ
โI'm terrible at math.โ
โI'll never understand this.โ
Those statements matter.
5๏ธโฃ They can memorize the steps but struggle when the problem changes. This is one reason I believe so strongly in understanding math rather than simply memorizing it.
At Sellars Tutoring Services LLC, my goal is to teach math step by step, helping students understand why concepts work so they can become confident problem-solvers.
I work with students from kindergarten through college, including test prep.
If you recognized your student in any of these signs, it may be worth having a conversation.
