🌎🍴 FACS Around the World! 🍴🌎
These past two weeks have been so much fun! We’ve been learning about different cultures from around the world and, of course, we had to bring some food into it!
To start, each kitchen group was assigned a different country to research. Students worked together to create a PowerPoint highlighting their country’s history, culture, traditions, foods, and more. They did such a great job putting their presentations together and sharing what they learned with the class, even though most of them were not too excited about the presenting part! 😅 I was proud of them for stepping outside of their comfort zones and doing it anyway!
Next, we used materials we already had in the classroom to create decorations inspired by each country and put together themed tablescapes. I loved seeing how creative they got!
And finally…the part they had all been waiting for! Each student received their own “passport” and got to travel around the classroom, visiting each “country” and tasting a dish prepared by that group. As they traveled from country to country, they were able to experience a small taste of the cultures they had spent the past two weeks learning about! 🍴
The goal of this project was about so much more than cooking. I want my students to understand that there is a whole world outside of what we see and experience every day. Learning about other cultures helps us understand different traditions, perspectives, and ways of life and food is such a fun way to make those lessons come to life!
Throughout this project, students practiced researching, teamwork, public speaking, creativity, cooking, and being willing to try something new. Watching everything come together and seeing them “travel the world” from our FACS classroom made this one of my favorite projects so far! 🌎❤️
