We’re excited to offer a new Neurodiversity: Tools, Supports & Strategies Series with Lauren Stewart, MA, Autism Consultant.

These free virtual workshops are designed to give parents, caregivers, educators, and community members practical, neurodiversity-affirming information they can actually use. Each session will include strategies for home and community, real-life examples, family-centered approaches, and time for questions and connection.

Upcoming topics include:

Toileting Support & Independence — November 18
ADHD: Traits, Co-Occurring Needs & Support — December 9
Pathological Demand Avoidance: Traits & Support — January 13
Neurodiversity-Affirming Language & Advocacy — April 21
Understanding ABA: History, Practice & Neuroaffirming Care — May 26

All workshops are held Wednesdays from 6:00–7:30 PM on Zoom.

These conversations matter. When families and communities better understand neurodivergent children, we are better equipped to support their needs, recognize their strengths, reduce unnecessary conflict, and advocate in ways that respect the whole child.

You can also find each workshop individually in the Events section of our page and on The Family Connection website calendar, where you can view details and register.

Please share this series and invite friends, family members, caregivers, educators, and others who support children and families. You never know who in your circle may be looking for exactly this kind of information!

🎒 Back to school comes with a lot of feelings.

Excitement. Nervousness. Big changes. New teachers, new routines, new classmates — and sometimes some very big worries.

If your child is feeling anxious about heading back to school, remember: the goal isn’t to make every worry disappear. It’s to help them feel safe, supported, and capable of moving through it. 💛

A few things you can do today:
• Keep routines calm and predictable
• Listen without immediately trying to “fix” the worry
• Remind them of times they’ve done hard things before
• Celebrate courage and effort — not just a tear-free drop-off
• Give everyone a little extra grace during the transition

And if you’d like more tools for supporting your child through worry and anxiety, join The Family Connection for:

🧠 Childhood Anxiety: Helping Kids Understand and Manage Worry

Learn practical ways to recognize anxiety, respond supportively, and help children build skills for managing their worries.

Because sometimes the bravest thing a child does all day is simply walk through those school doors. 💛

When emotions are high, teaching usually has to wait. Try getting close, lowering your voice, naming what you see, and keeping the boundary clear.
Connection is not the same as giving in, it is often what makes learning possible. Keep this short video in mind for the next hard moment.

Happy Father’s Day!

Today we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, mentors, coaches, and all those who show up with love, guidance, and support.

The everyday moments matter—listening, teaching, encouraging, and simply being present. Thank you to everyone who helps children feel safe, valued, and connected.

Wishing all father figures a joyful and meaningful Father’s Day. 💙

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms and caregivers in our community! 💐

Today is a chance to celebrate the small moments, hard days, and growth that come with raising kids.

Whether you’re a mom, stepmom, grandma, or someone showing up in a mothering role, what you do matters more than you know.

We’re grateful for you and all the ways you support your families, day in and day out. 💛

When you ban screens as a consequence, it can feel like the quickest way to 'make the lesson stick'.

But for many young people (especially ND children), screens are a regulating tool — so removing them often ramps up overwhelm rather than reducing the behaviour.

Today’s post looks at why screen bans tend to backfire and what actually supports learning and regulation instead.

Check an eye out for our post on natural and logical consequences, it will help to explain why consequences that don’t match the behaviour rarely lead to meaningful change.
