Many landowners desire to stay on their land as they age but have concerns about the possibility of doing so.

In this panel discussion, four experienced Land Stewards will discuss ways they’ve found to work smarter – not harder – as they age. They’ll offer practical tips for safely continuing your relationship with your land – so you can stay there as long as possible.

The discussion will focus on three areas
1. Age-related bodily changes
2. Adapting the land and activities to new physical limitations
3. Preventing injury and managing emergencies

This class is offered in Zoom and in-person formats.

Meet Maud Powell, who is a writer, farmer, speaker, facilitator, and professor in Oregon State University’s Small Farms Program. Drawing on her own experience with drought and climate-related challenges in farming, Powell conducts workshops across Oregon and the United States for individuals affected by climate change. These workshops are among the first of their kind and have received national recognition.

Sharing an article about our OSU Extension Master Gardener Coordinator, Grace Florjancic. Grace is leading efforts in Jackson County to address emerging community needs through research-based horticulture education. In response to the 2020 Rogue Valley wildfires, she has expanded education on Firewise landscaping to help residents make informed decisions that reduce wildfire risk, while also partnering with the Rogue Valley Food System Network and local food pantries to introduce microgreens as an accessible gardening option for individuals with limited growing space. Her work demonstrates how the Master Gardener Program continues to adapt to local challenges while improving community resilience and access to gardening education. This award-winning program helps landowners learn about their property and develop a management plan.

Topics covered wildfire risk reduction risk, forest & woodlands, soil health, pasture and grasslands and much more. At the end of this 13-week program participants will have developed a management plan for their property.

Course is in-person and is based in Jackson County at SOREC, 569 Hanley Rd, Central Point, OR. Program runs for 13 Tuesdays Sept 8-Dec 8, 2026, from 12-5 pm.

Cost: $300 individuals $450 couples. Register by July 31st and save $50
