Touro Law Center’s Orientation Program brought together both our incoming and returning students for a truly impactful learning experience through an immersive Poverty Simulation. The Simulation provided students with the opportunity to better understand the realities faced by individuals and families experiencing poverty while reinforcing the importance of empathy, access to justice, and community collaboration.

A sincere thank you to Lisa M. Zayas, Esq., Director, Access to Justice Division, Office for Justice Initiatives, NYS Unified Court System, for facilitating this experience and helping our students gain valuable insights that will remain with them throughout their legal education and future legal careers.

Special thanks to the Honorable Andrew A. Crecca, District Administrative Judge, 10th Judicial District, for his continued support and commitment to bringing this meaningful experience to our students. Thank you to Joseph R. Touro Law has received the 2026 Excellence in Innovation Award: Law Schools from Insight Into Academia magazine, the nation’s longest-running publication advancing best practices in higher education. The honor specifically recognizes Touro Law’s hybrid FlexTime JD Program and will be featured in the magazine’s July/August 2026 issue.

“This award highlights Touro Law's commitment to breaking down geographic and logistical barriers in legal education,” said Dean Elena Langan. “The FlexTime program was built on the belief that a rigorous legal education should be accessible to everyone, and we are thrilled to bring this exact model of flexible, high-quality legal education to our new Montana campus in 2027 to help address the region's shortage of legal professionals.”

Touro Law’s FlexTime JD program accommodates the schedules of students who require ultimate flexibility to balance their legal education with demanding work or family obligations. Through a rigorous combination of in-person classes required only on Sundays and online coursework, students can complete their degree requirements in just under four years.

The award comes at a pivotal moment of growth for the program. Currently offered at Touro Law’s main campus on Long Island and its Cross River Campus in Times Square, Manhattan, the FlexTime JD program will expand to a brand-new campus in Great Falls, Montana, set to open in Fall 2027. This expansion aims to directly address a documented and growing shortage of legal professionals across the Big Sky region.

“The Insight Into Academia Excellence in Innovation Award: Law Schools is a prestigious national honor recognizing law schools driving innovation in legal education,” said Holly Mendelson, co-owner and publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. “This selective recognition celebrates programs defined by forward-thinking design and measurable impact—initiatives that raise the standard and advance the field.”

We are saddened to inform the Touro Law community that Glenn Geier, former custodian and shuttle bus driver, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Glenn worked at Touro Law Center from 2011 to 2024. He was beloved by all who knew him. He was caring, considerate and would go out of his way to help. Anyone who took the shuttle bus knew just how caring and friendly he was.

Visitation hours with the family will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Christopher T. Jordan Funeral Home, located at 302 Long Beach Road in Island Park, NY. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30pm at the funeral home.
