Through Karen Kelley Voice, Piano, and Organ Teacher, I offer private lessons in Kettering, Ohio. I have a Bachelor of Science in Music Education for students K-12. I have a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Double Major in Piano Performance. These degrees come from the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio. I have a Master of Music degree in Voice and Music Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I have 51 years of teaching experience, this includes public school in Centerville, Ohio. I was a singer and dancer with John Kenley Players in the Summer Stock Musical Theater starring with Shirley Jones from the Partridge Family. I performed with Shirley Jones in the Sound of Music as a nun in the Abbey. I was also in On A Clear Day starring Shirley Jones and Bill Hayes. I played Shirley Jones' double in this musical as “Daisy.” We traveled the cities of Dayton, Warren, and Columbus, Ohio. I studied at the University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria. I studied the German language and culture. Variety of Music Taught
I teach a variety of music for voice, piano, and for organ. Examples of the different styles of music I teach are: classical, operatic arias, art songs, Italian arias, other foreign language songs (French, German, Latin, and English), musicals from Broadway, popular music, country music, etc. I shall play live accompaniment at the piano during instruction. I also use accompaniment tracks such as karaoke. Style of Teaching
I use a traditional, creative, innovative, and fun style of teaching. I accept voice, piano, and organ students of all ages. I like to start with children at the age of five or six years old, but I will work with students of all ages. Comprehensive Musicianship: music theory, technique, facility, interpretation skills and dynamic skills, music history and appreciation, and sight-reading and sight-singing. My overall philosophy of education is high expectations of accomplishment per student. I charge $22.00 per half hour of instruction. Normally I teach one lesson, per student, per week. One-hour lessons can be arranged. I do ask students to pay up front (in advance) for the month which equals $88.00 per month. Music Competitions
OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association): this is for classical music performers and T.O.P. Flight (Teens Offering Praise) Christian music only such as contemporary Christian and country Christian. This is for children ages 12 to 18; this is a Christian event. We compete with junior-high/ middle school students and high school students in OMEA competition. I teach solo and ensemble category music for OMEA competitions in District 12. My students will earn their rating through the OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) and for T.O.P. Flight; my students will compete against each other in different song and age categories. This is a competition that is for trophies. All music competitions are annual. I will prepare my students for school music auditions, music auditions for community programs and community theater, for MUSE MACHINE, talent shows, beauty pageants, and weddings. In 2011 and 2012 I had a voice student that went on American Idol. Her name is Cameron Boedecker; she was selected to go to Hollywood both years.
