We, the Village of Elks, stand with the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in the effort to . We are saddened by the series of senseless acts of violence and discrimination. We call for proactive efforts that help us engage in Courageous Conversations about Race seeking to help us recognize the implicit biases we all may carry. We must dismantle the historic discrimination and prejudice against people of AAPI ethnicity. In order to be proactive in our schools, we of the Village of Elks, support the diversification of the Centerville City School District curriculum as another means of educating our students and our community! We support the emphasis on Asian culture & history that is being promoted & encouraged by the DEI Team of the Centerville City Schools.
Knowledge creates understanding, understanding creates unity, unity creates community, community creates respect, respect can grow into love and only LOVE can conquer hate! We envision a Community and Schools where Diversity is celebrated, Equity is demonstrated & Inclusion is practiced with consistency!

This is a message providing our support to our AAPI community from Centerville City Schools
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team celebrates all members of our vibrant, diverse community. Across the nation, reports of anti-Asian incidents have risen by 150%.1 The state of Ohio currently ranks 17th among states for the number of reports of Asian hate crimes since March of 2020.2 As attacks targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have been on the rise in our country, we are grieved to hear of the impact this has had on members of our own Asian American/Pacific Islander community. We want to state unequivocally that we stand with our Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. If our classmates, neighbors and colleagues are in pain, we all can play a role in making change. We can reach out and show our support. We can stand up against harassment and hate wherever we see it, and join together in affirming our belief in acceptance and belonging for all.
The month of May is designated as Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and their history are a core part of the American story. The invaluable contributions and accomplishments of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have enriched and shaped our country. This year the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team will provide resources for our teachers and students in partnership with Dayton Association of Chinese Americans (DACA), The Greater Dayton Chinese School and the Asian American Council (AAC).
