Body control can sometimes be an overlooked part of rodeo.

It may be something that gets touched on, but having good body control is one of those things that can separate the elite from the rest. Knowing where your body is throughout every part of your run allows you to make better adjustments and have a little more control over what you’re doing. You can’t control every part of a run, but the better you understand and control your body, the more consistently you can execute your run.

So how do you build that body control? It starts with what you do every day in practice. What are you doing to build that muscle memory and teach your body to put your feet, hands, and position exactly where they need to be—over and over again?

Those small, intentional movements in practice can make a big difference when it’s time to compete. 🏆

We’ve talked a little bit about bits, but here are a couple that I like for goat tying. 🐐 Watch the video to see a couple of my go-to options and learn more about why I like them.

When it comes to quality bits, Dutton Bits are our favorites. They’re made to last and are the kind of bit you can count on for years to come.

Where did summer go?

At least my office today is air-conditioned, and so far, all of our flights are running as scheduled. I’ll take that as a win!

We’re headed to Caldwell, Idaho, for another clinic weekend and hopefully some cooler weather along the way.

Good luck to everyone competing and traveling this weekend. Wishing you all safe travels, good runs, and a great weekend!

Today we’re talking about something that can create a dangerous situation in the arena: a horse running down with their nose tucked to one side.

That bend can make it easier for a horse’s back foot to reach up and strike a kid’s foot — and that can turn into a serious wreck.

One factor that can contribute? The wrong bit. In this video, we break down how certain bits can cause a horse to tuck their nose and why a solid mouthpiece without a gag may help your horse run straighter and more safely.

We’ll also talk about rein adjustment and how small changes can make a difference.
