Myth vs. Reality: Youth Rodeo Edition 🤠

One of the first myths we’re tackling this month: you need a big, fancy rig to be part of youth rodeo.

The truth? You don’t.

You don’t need a certain rig or setup to fit in or be a part of the rodeo world.

There are so many things to invest in, and you just have to figure out what is most important to you in that season of life and where you’re at.

Stay tuned throughout October as we tackle more myths about the rodeo world!

Let’s talk about the weight limit on goats.🐐

This is a rule that can vary depending on the association, but another important thing to know and take into consideration is what different breeds of goats look like within that weight limit, because each breed grows differently.

One thing I’ve noticed is that where you live can make a difference in the breed of goat you typically tie. In the South, you may see more spanish goats, while up North, you might see more dairy goats.

A 60-pound Boer goat is going to look different than a 60-pound dairy goat, even though they weigh the same.

What breed of goats do you typically tie, and where are you located?

This is one rule we’ve seen play out many different ways, and it can vary from judge to judge.

With that being said, it’s important to be out there watching and paying attention to how a judge goes about different situations. If that goat is laying down and you have to pick it up, what does that particular judge look for? When does he drop the flag? Is it when he hears the string zing off, or when he sees the palm of your hand?

Of course, you’re not going to know in every single situation you’re put in, but if you’ve seen that judge before or have been at that rodeo, it’s just good information to be aware of going into your run.
