A Special Visit from Macomb County 4-H! Sixth graders had an exciting guest visit from Ms. Rebecca of Macomb County 4-H! She took students behind the scenes of farm life, explaining how modern machinery works to produce the food on our tables—and even sharing how robotic technology is revolutionizing modern dairy farming. The highlight of the visit was meeting her live farm rabbit! Ms. Rebecca walked students through what it takes to raise and sell livestock on a working farm, giving everyone a memorable, hands-on look at agricultural science.

During Animals Week in summer school, students stepped onto the farm to watch live sheep shearing (on YouTube) and try their hand at carding real wool! They were amazed by how the raw wool felt—and particularly surprised by the natural lanolin on their hands. After cleaning the wool, they learned the art of spinning, using spindles to twist the fibers into finished yarn. The farm fun didn’t stop there! Students also discovered how Michigan dairy farms operate and learned the science behind making butter. By shaking jars of heavy cream until butter formed, they earned a tasty treat to enjoy on crackers.
