🌱 A little bit of a new direction for Farm Kids this year… but the heart of what we do isn’t changing.
One of my biggest goals has always been to give children the kind of childhood learning experience that I wish every child could have — lots of time outside, hands-on projects, real-life experiences, books, imagination, and plenty of room to explore and play.
But I also want to make sure kids are ready for what comes next.
So this year, I’m intentionally bringing a little more structure and academic learning into our days — without turning Farm Kids into a traditional classroom.
Our weeks will be built around themes and unit studies, with great books woven throughout and lots of connections to nature and the world around us.
We’ll be adding things like:
📚 More intentional read-alouds and book-based learning
🌿 Nature studies and unit studies
✏️ Worksheets and opportunities to practice early academic skills
🔬 STEM experiments and hands-on science
🔢 Math, literacy, writing and problem-solving
🎨 Art, projects and creative activities
🐄 And, of course, plenty of time for farm chores, outdoor exploration, play and learning through real experiences
The goal is an equal blend of both.
I don’t want children sitting at a table all day completing worksheets. But I also don’t want them leaving us without the foundational skills and familiarity with classroom expectations that will help them feel confident when they enter traditional school.
So yes, there will be worksheets, books, STEM experiments and opportunities to practice those “school” skills.
But there will ALSO be muddy boots, farm animals, nature walks, building, creating, asking questions, getting messy, solving real problems, and learning through play.
Because I truly believe children need both.
We can work on letters, numbers and early writing and spend plenty of time exploring the woods.
That balance is what I’m working toward here at Farm Kids. ❤️🌱
🌱 A few openings for fall!
We currently have ONE spot remaining in our Farm & Forest Day School for ages 3–6!
We also still have a few spots available in our Living Books Book Club, beginning September 14th! 📚
