One of the most valuable aspects of sports is the opportunity to build visualization skills. The child observes others, processes the instructions and steps or rules of the game, and then imagines what it would be like to execute the same actions. When ready after this mental rehearsal, the child jumps in and executes the actions according to the motor map they planned. They then get immediate feedback on how well they did.

When visualization becomes a fun part of sports, it helps the feedback process where the child learns and then plans on how to be more successful, or duplicate success the next time around.

Do It - See It - Say It = BUSY WORKER

Look at the workers who go to work daily, perform the same tedious duties, and then leave work. For some, this may be fulfilling. For others, they may be missing a real passion. Fear often keeps you from having the courage to follow your dreams. Dream big, take the risk and follow through with it!

See It - Say It - Do It = DREAMER

Visualization without making a declaration or action plan usually results in a DREAMER who has not realized his dreams. Do you know a teenager who has always talked about going to college, but just doesn’t put in the effort to make good grades? He may have the visualization of going to college but either never makes a strong declaration or takes no action. Excuses are abundant and not much is accomplished. Frustration and/or avoidance of tasks usually increase.

What does your child do in their free time? Different reports show children age 8-18 spend around 4-6 hours of television and screen time per day. They often serve as a "babysitter" for kids. But the problem is these pre-packaged imagery can stunt the child's creativity and imagination. The screens do the thinking. Think about how this might impact your child.

Each of us experience "marathons" in our lives, whether as a sport, being a parent, or in our daily jobs. The question is, who is responsible for the training and running of your marathon? Who visualizes the task? Who declares it has to be done? Who acts on it for completion? Who usually gets transformed?

YOU DO! If you want to create the life you dream of, then you have to take full responsibility for your life. That means no more excuses, complaining or blaming. Sure, we all have setbacks and blocks. How we deal with these issues is based on our beliefs about ourselves.

Professional athletes and elite coaches know this well. In preparing for a challenge, what you focus on affects your performance. Mindset matters. That's why visualization is an essential tool in sports and any activity. Ta-Dah! is the “transformation” part of the VDAT (visualize, declare, action, transform) process. Transformation is about moving or shifting from where you are now to where you would like to be. It is the process of taking continual steps in your life’s journey.

Ta-Dah! It’s when goals are accomplished and dreams are realized. There really isn’t an end point, for when we accomplish a goal, the excitement of attaining it makes us want to focus on our next goal. Ta-Dah! becomes the encourager for all things to come.
