Try a small independence practice this week.

Choose one everyday task, like packing a bag or starting laundry. Write down the first step, decide when you’ll try it, and put a reminder where you’ll see it.

Afterward, notice what helped and what needs adjusting. A useful routine should fit the person using it.

You can know what to do and still get stuck doing it.

The planner is filled out. The reminders are set. But getting started, handling a difficult conversation, or restarting after a rough week still feels hard.

That is where practical life skills support can help.

In our new EAC blog, we share four ways to build follow-through:
• Make the first action visible.
• Practice the words before you need them.
• Agree on what accountability will look like.
• Make a plan for restarting.

Chris Caro, EAC’s Director of Client Success and Life Skills Coach, helps teens and young adults work on routines, communication, and everyday responsibilities. His adult toolkits—ADHD Beyond the Planner and ND Recovery & Rebuilding—offer practical resources to use between conversations and coaching sessions.

Your teen or young adult may not need another lecture. They may need someone who can help them figure out what keeps getting in the way.

Chris works with teens and young adults who often know what they want to do but struggle to turn that intention into action.

Coaching may focus on:
• Getting started
• Building routines that fit real life
• Following through
• Handling social situations with more confidence
• Taking the next step toward work and adult responsibilities

Chris’s style is practical and collaborative. No shame. No long lecture. Just space to understand the pattern, try a workable next step, and build skills the young person can use more independently over time.

October at EAC is about building momentum. 🍂

Sometimes the challenge isn’t knowing what to do—it’s getting started, following through, recovering when something goes sideways, and building routines that actually work in real life.

This month, we’re putting a special spotlight on Chris Caro, EAC Coach. Chris supports teens and young adults with:

• ADHD + executive functioning
• routines, motivation + follow-through
• accountability
• social and life skills
• job/work readiness
• confidence with everyday adult responsibilities

Our October EAC update also includes our FREE Transition Readiness Snapshot, the Virtual High School Social Skills Group, The Messy Middle parent community, Chris’s self-guided toolkits, and a simple Fall Walk & Talk family challenge.

Social confidence can grow when teens have room to try, pause, and try again.

For parents, it can be hard to watch a teen rehearse what to say at home and then feel stuck when a real conversation begins. More pressure rarely makes that moment easier. Guided practice can give them a place to work through it.

EAC’s Virtual High School Social Skills Group offers small-group support for ages 14–18, with practical opportunities to practice conversations, friendships, reading social situations, and recovering from awkward moments.

We’ll make room for repetition, questions, and each teen’s own pace — without asking anyone to be someone they’re not.

Tuesdays, October 6–November 10, 2026
6:00–7:00 PM Central
Live on Zoom

A parent might say:

"My teen is struggling to stay organized."

But the best support depends on what's happening beneath the surface.

🧩 Coaching can help build routines, planning skills, and accountability.

💬 Therapy can help when emotions, anxiety, or relationships are creating additional challenges.

🤝 Parent consultation can provide strategies to better support growth and independence at home.

No two journeys look exactly the same and that's why we believe support should be personalized.

Together, we'll help you find the approach that fits your family's goals.

One of the most common questions we hear from parents is:

"My teen is capable, so why do everyday tasks feel like such a struggle?"

The answer isn't always about motivation.

Planning, organizing, prioritizing, shifting between tasks, and following through are all skills that can be challenging, especially for individuals with executive functioning differences.

Understanding what's behind the challenge is the first step toward finding strategies that truly help.

At Emerging Adulthood Consulting, we work alongside young adults and families to build practical skills, confidence, and routines that support greater independence.

Progress starts with understanding, not assumptions.
