4 rules for life based on the 4 rules of firearm safety
The challenging dynamic of the safety rules, just like these life rules, is that they aren’t hard to understand, but they are easy to break.
And when you do break them you open yourself up to dangerous consequences.
Live by these 4 rules to better live the life God intended for you
RULE #1
- Firearm Rule- Treat every weapon as if it were loaded
- Life Rule- Treat every day/opportunity like it matters
- Example- You don’t know when the gun of life is loaded
- Colossians 3:23 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters
RULE #2
- Firearm Rule- Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
- Life Rule- Never point your thoughts or words negatively towards God or his people
- Example- When you speak negative words, you are pointing the weapon at yourself or your team (God’s children)
- Proverbs 18:21 ESV - Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
RULE #3
- Firearm Rule- Keep your finger safe and off the trigger until you are ready to fire
- Life Rule- Keep your emotions under control until you know they are useful
- Example- Having a short temper is like running around with your finger on the trigger
- Ephesians 4:26-27 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
RULE #4
Firearm Rule- Know your target and whats beyond
Life Rule- Know God and know who he made you to be
Example- Until you know your Father in heaven and you know who he made you to be, you are shooting with your eyes closed, ineffective and hazardous to everyone around you
Matthew 7:22-23 - “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name and drive out demons in your name and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
