I chose Lela for the month of August because she painted a clear picture of what a selfless, serving, supportive, and team-first athlete looks like. She suffered a season-ending injury in another sport one week before our season began. Despite this, she didn’t miss a day of practice or a single opportunity to show up for her team. It would be easy for her to lean into what was taken from her but instead she only gives back. Lela leads with fun energy and confidently pushes those around her to be better. I know where Lela is by the laughter I hear - she is always brightening her team’s day, often with her biking skills. She is an important daily reminder to our women’s team of perspective and handling adversity with class - we are very fortunate to have her on our team now, and for years to come.
