We use the Funshine Express and Carols Curriculum along with teacher added curriculum for activities. Welcome! We moved (Summer 2010) to a new bigger location!
Small Wonders In-Home Preschool & Daycare is now located in NE Cedar Rapids. We are just down the street from Noelridge Park and close to Rockwell Collins. Our new location has a “shaded” outdoor play area and HUGE rooms indoors! NEW the Spring of 2012 we will be more than one level as well. We will have activities and learning on the main floor as well as a HUGE indoor play room / indoor playgrou
nd in the lower level for those “bad weather days” and addtional room! The children will feel as if they are actually in a REAL SCHOOL but in a home atmosphere! We are open M-F from 7:00-5:30 daily (anything before that or after that you will be CHARGED EXTRA)…no snow days where we are closed but you pay anyway like the big centers do. Sorry, but we are NOT open on evenings or weekends ever. Preschool for ages 2 1/2 – 5 only! Because all my equipment and curriculum is geared for this age….I only accept this age group. I do not take anyone younger than 2 1/2 years of age or older than 5 years of age (or school age). You will NOT see equipment in my Preschool such as a “playpen, strollers, pack-n-plays, etc.” as they just are not necessary. If you want a child to grow and learn you need to put them in an environment that will enable them to do that. (* I do have a high chair for children that need it for meals or for when I am preparing lunch for SAFETY reasons. It only takes a few seconds for a younger child to get into mischief, so this is the ONLY time I use them…if at all). We do lots of fun things at Small Wonders! Everyday we have Mother Goose Time which is a professional Curriculum … check it out at: www.mothergoosetime.com
The Mother Goose Time Curriculum ($100.00 value per month) supplemented with other curriculum’s, supplies for crafts, meals and other costs are NEVER passed on to the parents as an additional cost! This is all included in the low weekly rate. BESIDES the Mother Goose Time Curriculum and Crafts…..we also concentrate on learning the things you need to know prior to entering Kindergarten. My kids even KNOW things that Kindergartener’s don’t even know (or are expected to know). The “neat” thing about this part of our learning is the children don’t even seem to know it IS learning…it just comes naturally as part of what we do. We learn the “sounds” the letters of the alphabet letters make and then learn to READ small words by sounding out these sounds. My kids can say the “Pledge Of Allegiance” by heart and we do daily weather and calendar. It is ENDLESS the things the children LEARN day to day….and the parents will tell you this! Non-Smoking Environment, Mandatory Reporter, CPR and First Aid Trained, DHS Registered, CCR&R Certified, Bacground Check Cleared, 15 Years Experience and Excellent References! Email me at [email protected] or call me at (319) 361-2000 with further questions or to set up an interview. Thank-you for visiting my website! Satisfaction is ALWAYS GUARANTEED!!! If after the first week…if either you or your child are not happy with Small Wonders Preschool… I will refund your Preschool fees for one week (minus $25.00 to cover curriculum fees, supplies and food). I am this “confident” in my abilities and that you and your child will LOVE what I have to offer at SMALL WONDERS PRESCHOOL and DAYCARE! How many other daycare’s extend this kind of guarantee offer to their parents? NEW PROGRAM ~ The Small Wonders Lending Backpack! Every Friday the kids will take turns taking home a fun filled backpack of items we use in our Preschool. Items can be anything from “Bristle Blocks, a book to a real Computer!” The backpack is loaded with between 9 to 10 items! Everything sent home in this lending backpack will be in EXCELLENT condition so care is a MUST! This teaches the children responsibility but also allows the families to get to see exactly what they do each day while they are at Preschool! = )
Here is what a former parent of a child who attended had to say:
Dear Prospective Parents/Guardians:
This letter serves as a recommendation for Small Wonders Preschool and Daycare, owned by Cindy Burns-Walter. My daughter was enrolled at Small Wonders from August 2010 to June 2013. As working parents, my husband and I were looking for a daycare provider that provided a loving, nurturing, yet academic-oriented environment that would keep our daughter engaged throughout the day. We found that, and more, at Small Wonders. Cindy provides an outstanding preschool curriculum in a loving, at-home environment. While in Cindy’s care, my daughter learned more than just her ABC’s, shapes, and numbers. Cindy taught science lessons, math concepts, social skills, and other literacy components using the Mother Goose Preschool Curriculum. As an elementary teacher, I saw that my daughter was becoming prepared for kindergarten at an early age. Cindy creates a learning environment where children discover the joys of learning such as exploration, self-expression, and working collaboratively. At the end of our time at Small Wonders, my daughter has already exceeded expectations on her elementary school’s incoming kindergarten readiness exam and mid-year kindergarten exam. As a teacher, this speaks volumes to the amount of work and care that Cindy puts into her preschool program. Cindy takes the time to get to know each child personally. My daughter was always excited to see what she had planned for the next day. The birthday and holiday parties are planned for each child to feel loved and special. Theme days and show-and-tell give them an opportunity to express themselves as individuals. Each day, a note is sent home with the day’s learning objectives and activities, as well as all the work that was accomplished. As a parent, I truly appreciated the daily communication, website information, and Facebook updates. This made me feel a part of my child’s day while she was in Cindy’s care. Cindy and Rick became a valuable part of our family’s life. They were missed on vacations, holidays, and weekends. While our time at Small Wonders has finished, I can’t help but give credit where credit is due. My daughter is ready for kindergarten with the solid academic foundation, love, and patience she received while at Small Wonders Preschool and Daycare. Cindy provided a home away from home for my child. I would highly recommend Small Wonders Preschool and Daycare without reservations. The quality of care, as well as academic instruction, is outstanding. You will not find another daycare or preschool like it. Please feel free to call me if you should have any questions. Sincerely,
