Did you know the Kirkwood Foundation has inducted more than 400 members into the Samuel J. Kirkwood Society? Named after Iowa's Civil War governor, the SJK Society is comprised of individuals who have either created a planned gift or endowed their gift to Kirkwood, KCCK-FM, or the Older Iowans Fund.

| 60 Years of Kirkwood

Sammy the Eagle has reinvented himself a few times over the years. Created by a student, this particular Sammy debuted at the school's homecoming basketball games in 1983.

"When it got to the head, I just cut, sewed, and glued, and hoped it would come out right," said Laurie Sorum ('84).

| 60 Years of Kirkwood

Many veterans have used GI Bill benefits to pursue their education at Kirkwood. In 1969, Area X Community College felt the effects of a large number of returning Vietnam servicemen, with a record 242 veterans enrolled for Spring quarter.
