The Primary Program provides an enriching developmental experience in an environment that encourages personal respect and responsible freedom. Our classes also offer socialization and formal learning experiences for the very young child. Fine and gross motor coordination activities, singing, stories, learning units and manipulation materials keep the child happy, busy and stimulated.

Research shows that the best predictor of future success is a positive sense of self-esteem. CVMS Montessori classrooms, based on self-directed, noncompetitive activities, help children develop strong self-images and the confidence to face challenges and change with optimism.

Montessori education purposefully groups children in three year age spans. Rather than teach a group of four year old children the same thing at the same time, we follow the individual interests of the child. The child chooses what he or she would like to learn. Bright children can move through the curriculum quickly so that they are constantly challenged, and slower children, who may need more time to internalize concepts, are not pressured to keep up with the group.

Montessori practical life activities foster independence, concentration, motor control, and responsibility by engaging children in real-life tasks like cleaning, preparing food, and self-care. These activities develop fine motor skills, self-discipline, and confidence, while building a strong foundation for academic learning.
