“The children love to do these things [practical life activities] for themselves and they learn to be careful and precise in their movements. This is both education of movement, because there is a refinement of muscular co-ordination when the work is carefully done, and education through movement, because these activities involve judgement and will, self-discipline, and an appreciation of orderliness.” -

As part of our practical life curriculum, the Bambini children hosted a spring tea party. 🫖🌷 This activity was a delight for the children and offered many opportunities to practice proper table manners and careful use of beautiful and delicate dishes and cups. When we provide guidance and trust, it’s amazing what little hands can accomplish with great care!

Montessori Education Week is a time to celebrate the transformative power of an education rooted in respect, independence, and trust in the child.

Across classrooms, homes, and communities, Montessorians are preparing environments, observing with intention, and supporting each child’s unfolding potential.

This week, we honor the legacy of Maria Montessori and the living work happening every day in Montessori spaces around the world.

In the comments, share what Montessori education means to you.

In the Casa classroom, three boys of different ages were peacefully engaged with their materials. By actively working with their hands and moving these pieces, the children gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

What a wonderful week back together after the holiday break! We noticed routines were practiced at home and were impressed by how quickly the children settled back into the classrooms.

In the Nido room, the children learned several winter themed songs and poems, including using scarves to creatively move to Vivaldi’s Winter from the Four Seasons.

The Bambini children also enjoyed seasonal work with a focus on snowmen and snowflakes including stamping in practical life and other fine motor activities.

In Casa, the children are learning about the Arctic and the animals that live there. A favorite work was using a hammer and pick to free animals frozen in ice. Everyone was eager to have a turn, also allowing for the opportunity to practice grace and courtesy and asking for a turn.

In Elementary, we enjoyed making Canadian poutine, a popular winter dish, for our Friday lunch.

Our teachers and staff got together to celebrate the holiday season and a wonderful first half of the year. 🎄

We loved supporting uptown Marion, visiting .uptown.marion for lunch and making candles at afterwards. We couldn’t help but notice how the candle making method was presented - Maria Montessori would have been proud!
