We’re kicking off the year with personalized 15-minute, 1-on-1 conferences with your child’s homeroom teacher. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, drop off supplies, ask questions, learn about daily routines, connect with encore & fine arts teachers, visit the PTO, and more!

🍎 Wouldn’t You Know Wednesday: Lunch & Recess! 🥪🏃‍♀️

Did you know there are several ways to help your student manage their lunch account and make the most of their cafeteria experience at Creek?

💳 Lunch Accounts & Payments
Families can add money to lunch accounts online or drop off payments at the school store before school and during designated times throughout the school day. Please keep in mind that deposits may not appear in a student’s account immediately on the same day.

🍕 Cafeteria Choices
The Creek Cafeteria offers a variety of options each day, including:
✨ Main line
✨ Alternate line
✨ Pizza line
✨ Grab & Go station

Students may also purchase a la carte items if funds are available in their meal account. Families are encouraged to talk with their students about cafeteria expectations and choices. Parents can also set spending limits on accounts to help manage purchases.

🪪 Lunch Cards Keep Lines Moving
To help our lunch lines run smoothly and give students more time to eat and socialize, students need their lunch card when checking out. If a student forgets their card, they will be asked to wait until the end of the line while the cashier manually looks up their account.

🌳 Lunch & Recess
Students enjoy a 15-minute recess paired with their lunch time. At the beginning of the year, students will sit with their homeroom groups as they learn cafeteria routines. As the year progresses, students will transition to neighborhood seating, where they can choose to sit with peers from their neighborhood.

We are excited to help students build independence, make positive choices, and enjoy their lunch and recess time at Creek!

🦅 Fun Fact Friday: Did You Know About Student Meal Accounts? 🍎🥪

Did you know families have control over their student’s meal account? Through the Meal Magic Family Portal or by contacting the School Store clerk, families can view purchases, set daily spending limits, or block a la carte purchases.

A few helpful reminders:
💳 Students must have a positive account balance to purchase a la carte items.
🪪 Students should have their ID card ready at checkout to help keep lunch lines moving quickly. If a student forgets their ID, they will wait until the end of the line so the cashier can manually enter their information.

Students may purchase additional items such as:
🍪 Snacks and treats
🥤 Drinks
🍿 Popcorn, chips, and other snack options
🥪 Extra breakfast and lunch items

Prices vary by item and are subject to change.
$.75 - fruit snacks
$.70 - pop tarts, crackers, water
$.90 - chips, popcorn, rice krispies, jello, pudding
$1.25 - cookies, brookies, donuts, muffins, confetti rice krispies
$1.50 - can drinks, jerky
$2.75 - extra breakfast
$5.15 - extra lunch

🦅 Thursday Tidbit: What About Specials & Activities at Creek? 🎨🎵

At Creek, our special subject classes are called Encore. All 5th grade students participate in General Music, Art, and Physical Education, with additional options available for Band, Orchestra, and Informational Technology. Joining Band or Orchestra is often the first time students get to choose a class at school, and students who may want to participate at any point during their school career should sign up in 5th grade.

A quick PE reminder: Students do not need to change clothes for PE, but they should wear athletic socks and shoes on PE days (no Crocs or flip flops). Students may keep an extra pair of athletic shoes and socks in their locker if they prefer to change before PE or recess.

Beyond the school day, Prairie Creek offers a variety of clubs and activities that vary from year to year. Past opportunities have included Chess Club, Lego League, Art and Choir Clubs, Green Team, Boys on the Run, and Girls on the Run. We love giving students opportunities to explore interests, build connections, and be part of the Creek community!

🦅 Wouldn’t Ya Know, Wednesday: Creek School Store! 🛍️

Did you know Prairie Creek has a School Store located right next to the Attendance Office? Families and students can stop by the store for a variety of needs, including:

🎵 Purchasing Band & Orchestra supplies
🦅 Shopping for Prairie spirit gear and Creek items
🍎 Adding money to student lunch accounts
🪪 Picking up or purchasing student ID cards, replacements, and lanyards
💳 Questions about lunch accounts, fees, and fines

The School Store is typically open:
⏰ Morning: 7:45–10:30 a.m.
⏰ Afternoon: 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Students need to get a pass from their teacher before visiting the store during the school day. If the store is closed, families can stop by the main office to drop off money or leave a message for the store clerk.

🔒 A locker reminder: We strongly encourage students to purchase locker locks through the School Store. The store keeps a record of combinations and has a master key available to help students when needed.
