It is with profound sadness that Xavier Middle School and Xavier Catholic Schools shares the passing of our beloved colleague, teacher and friend, Angie Cummings (R90), following her courageous battle with cancer.

There are some people whose lives become so intertwined with a school community that it is difficult to tell the story of one without telling the story of the other. Angie was one of those people.

A 1990 graduate of Regis High School, Angie returned to serve the Catholic school community that helped form her. Since joining Regis Middle School when it opened in 2000-2001, she served as a math teacher, resource teacher, lead teacher, campus minister and instructional coach.

But those titles only begin to describe what Angie meant to our school.

She was a mentor, colleague, teacher, friend and faithful servant who possessed a special gift for understanding middle school students and supporting the educators who served them. For more than 25 years at Regis, Angie helped shape the culture and community generations of students, families and educators came to know and love.

The words of Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others,” were especially meaningful to Angie. Today, they seem particularly fitting. Angie shared her light generously, and its impact will remain within the halls of Regis and Xavier Middle School for generations to come.

Please join us in praying for Angie’s husband, Chris (R90); their daughters, Mikayla (X14), Gabi (X18) and Haley (X20); and the many students, colleagues, friends and loved ones who were blessed to know her.

As was shared in the last Compass newsletter, we are aware that dress code orders from Land's End have been delayed in shipping and that our dress code supply at the Saints Shop is low.

Due to this, GRADES 6-8 at Xavier Middle School (LaSalle and Regis Campuses) and GRADES 6-8 at St. Joseph School will have a grace period for dress code polos until September 8th in the requirement of the cross and halo logo on shirts until TUESDAY, SEPT. 8th (unless communicated otherwise).

Students are still expected to be in a navy, white, gray, or light blue polo shirt with logos no larger than a quarter.

NOTE: This grace period applies only to Grades 6-8. It does not apply to Xavier High School.

MEET OUR NEW TEACHER: VAL ZECK (X21) (5th Grade)

We’re so excited to welcome XHS alum, Val Zeck (X21), back to Xavier Catholic Schools as our new 5th Grade teacher at Xavier Middle School (LaSalle Campus)!

A graduate of Mount Mercy University’s education program, Ms. Zeck is a licensed K-6 teacher with a K-8 Reading Endorsement. She’s also no stranger to XCS -- having attended our Catholic schools from preschool through high school and later returning as a substitute teacher and reading interventionist at Regis MS last year.

As a Xavier High School student, Ms. Zeck was active in Kairos and served as a House Leader in the XHS Community System. Now, she’s excited to give back to the Catholic school community that helped form her.

MEET OUR NEW TEACHER: SHELBY JAMISON (X10) (7th Grade Science)

We’re excited to welcome Xavier alum, Shelby Jamison (X10), to the Xavier Middle School (Regis Campus) team!

Mrs. Jamison brings 12 years of experience in education as an elementary teacher, middle school teacher and instructional coach. For her, joining XMS is also a return to her roots in Catholic education! Shelby and her husband, Caleb, an assistant coach with Xavier’s varsity boys basketball program, are already familiar faces in the Xavier community, and their three children, Della, Josey and Judah, are all students in the Xavier Catholic Schools system.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Jamison back home!
