Like many Latin dances, rumba developed gradually in Cuba. It was performed as a ballroom dance with music that was slowed down and moves that were more sedated. As a result, it is now the second-slowest of the Latin dances, with the only slower dance being the bolero.
Many ballet academies offer scholarships or apprentice programs for students each year. Students involved in the apprentice program perform for the public several times a year, learn new choreography, and perform at demonstrations and lectures in schools and for special occasions.
Country dance includes a number of styles, including the popular Two-Step. Early country dances were often comprised of all men, due to a scarcity of women on the frontier, with followers identified by a handkerchief tied on one arm.
Some of the most legendary male ballet dancers include Erik Bruhn, Frederick Ashton, Rudolf Nureyev, and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Each one was a well-known dancer in his own right; only Baryshnikov is still living.
Globally, the musical sensation, High School Musical, has been seen by over 225 million viewers, according to Disney Channel facts. The series was filmed in Utah and got the youth of today back on their feet with its award winning choreography!
Did you know that Pierre Zurcher-Margolle was the highly venerated French dance instructor who introduced the ballroom rumba into international competitions in the 1950s? Thanks to his vision and passion about this dance, the rumba took its place in the status quo of the Latin dance competition world.

Many don’t realize that ballet requires a tremendous amount of focus and concentration, as there are many specific movements in the hands and feet that need to be memorized and executed. Thus, ballet is great for developing a greater attention span and improving memory as well.
