When the Associate Dean wants to reenact her favorite movie... Austin Powers!
The wide variety of courses offered by Kirkwood’s Social Sciences department encourage students to analyze human behavior from many different angles.
Students conduct research and interpret the results to better describe, explain and predict behavior. Start here and transfer to a four-year college or university. Work with our department advisers and the Advising & Transfer Center on a plan that will help you transfer your credits. For more information, come to 1008 Cedar Hall, or call 319-398-4911 or 800-332-2055 ext. 4911. Social Sciences area

The Social Sciences office is on the move!
Starting tomorrow, August 2nd, you will be able to find the Social Sciences office staff as part of the Liberal Arts Office Suite on the 2nd Floor of Cedar Hall, directly behind Tutoring Services.
Did you know you can still get a jump start before fall? There are some classes available that begin July 5th.
We wish the best of luck to the students who are taking finals, and to the faculty that have to grade them.
Remember to take care of yourself.
• Eat regular nutritious food.
• Drink water regularly. Staying hydrated during busy times is important.
• Get some sleep. Experts recommend seven to nine hours of sleep per night.
• When studying for long periods, take regular breaks to decompress.
• Switch subjects regularly, if possible. Our brains can become fatigued when studying the same material for too long.
• Watch your mental health – stress is real.
UNDER 3 WEEKS LEFT IN THE SPRING TERM
Here are a few study tips to help you finish strong!
• Find dates for when projects may be due and/or tests may be happening. Most often, these are found in the class syllabus, or ask the instructor. Plan your time accordingly.
• Make sure to leave enough time in your day to study and/or do any homework given.
• Have an organized, dedicated space that is your routine place to study, with fewer distractions.
• Make sure to have all of the materials you need to do your tasks before you start.
• Attend and actively participate in class.
• Take advantage of your instructor’s office hours to go over anything you don’t understand.
• Use old exams or review sheets to practice. Study them if those questions may appear again, or look over them to find clues about what the next exam may look like.
• Use visual aids like diagrams and charts when they are available. Our brains tend to remember visual cues more than just reading words on a page.
• Participate in study groups and review sessions. If they aren’t happening, start your own with members of your class.
• Eat regular nutritious food. The food pantry is available if needed. Email: [email protected]
