We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Kailey Gering as Roosevelt’s new Vocal Music Director for the 2026-2027 school year! 🎶

Ms. Gering comes to us from McCombs Middle School in the Des Moines Public Schools, where she taught middle school vocal and general music. A graduate of Luther College, she was actively involved in Luther’s Nordic Choir and Vocal Arts Ensemble, and her training there has shaped a teaching philosophy centered on technique, musicality, and the joy of singing.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Gering serves as a Teaching Artist with City Voices Des Moines, where she offers private voice instruction and participates in community music education initiatives throughout the metro area.

We are so excited to have Ms. Gering bring her passion for choral music and her dedication to young musicians to our Roosevelt community!

We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Maxwell Lowery as Roosevelt’s new Orchestra Director for the 2026-2027 school year! 🎻

Mr. Lowery is an educator, violist, and composer who brings exceptional credentials to our program. He earned his degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied viola under Jeffrey Irvine and graduated as the recipient of three awards including the Gilbert M. Brooks Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence and the Maurice and Judith Kaplow Award for Uncommon Creativity.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Lowery is an active composer whose works for chamber ensembles and student string orchestras have earned prizes from the Cleveland Composers Guild and the American Viola Society. Most recently, he performed a recital of his original viola compositions at the American Viola Society’s biennial conference.

Mr. Lowery comes to us from Post Oak School in Houston, Texas, and is relocating to Iowa alongside his wife, violist Molly Wise, who has been appointed Professor of Viola at the University of Iowa School of Music. We cannot wait for our students to experience his passion for music and his commitment to helping every student find their beautiful sound.
