National Preparedness Month reminds us to stay ready for emergencies every day. Emergencies occur quickly and without warning.

We can't prevent emergencies, but we can prepare for them. Part of a great Emergency Preparedness Plan is to have an emergency kit ready and available!

Use Ready.gov’s resources to help children understand what belongs in an emergency kit. Play the Build a Kit Game! Kids go on a mission to find needed items and build an emergency kit. Finally, don’t forget to download and print your emergency kit list!

For decades, Dolly Parton has helped put books into the hands of millions of young children through her Imagination Library, beginning at birth.

And those books represent so much more than learning to read.

In the earliest years, sharing a book is a chance for babies and toddlers to hear new words, explore the world, connect with the people who love them and build the relationships that help their brains grow. Long before a child can read the words on a page, they’re learning through every story, snuggle, point and conversation.

Inspired by her own father, who never had the opportunity to learn to read, Dolly turned a deeply personal experience into a commitment to making books more accessible to families, regardless of where they live or what they earn.

Her work is a powerful reminder that every child deserves opportunities to learn, connect and thrive from the very beginning.

An Iowa AEYC At-Large Board position is open now!

Iowa AEYC is accepting applications for an At-Large Governing Board Member. This leadership role helps guide the organization’s strategic direction, connect with Professional Engagement Groups, promote best practices, and represent Iowa’s early childhood professionals.

This position is appointed by the Board President and will serve the remainder of the current term through July 2027.

What’s your favorite?

I love a good baby snuggle and toddlers can be a lot of fun, but preschoolers (and younger school age) are my personal favorite to work with.

Looking for something fun to do on a visit to Wickiup Hill Learning Center this week? Drop by our classroom inside the learning center tomorrow (Friday, August 14, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.) and help us paint rocks to look like food items. They will be donated to the outdoor natural playscape's mud kitchen to inspire even more creative play!
