The WLEA is pleased to announce that we have come to a tentative agreement with the district for our 2026-2027 contract.
The district continues to fund its teachers despite the low funding from the state. Every full-time teacher will receive at least a $1,500 increase to their salary for next year! A conscientious effort was put forth to reward those who have been a Comet for many years, and longevity was rewarded well this year, with our longest serving teachers receiving some of the highest increases to their pay.
We are very pleased with our agreement and know that we are very fortunate to work in a district that continues to be fiscally responsible in this economic and political climate while also being supportive of the teachers in their employ.
The WLEA would like to thank the Board of Education, Superintendent, and Business Secretary for their ongoing partnership. With their backing, we continue to attract and retain a wonderful teaching staff and provide a great education to our community.

Several members of the WLEA and WLPEA were in attendance at the ISEA Finance Training in Cedar Rapids this evening. ISEA bargaining specialist Jason Enke led us through a basic overview of school finance and how to use the figures to support our students and staff to the best of our ability.

The West Liberty Education Association donated $500 to the Voluntary Action Council to support distribution of holiday boxes on Tuesday, November 25th. When union members heard that the pantry plans to increase the number of holiday boxes to 200 this year, they brought the idea of a donation to the WLEA board. Recognizing the importance of supporting students and the community, the board approved the donation unanimously.

Hands off our IPERS! This is our time to call and demand that our elected officials need to start working for their constituents and not for corporate interests.
