Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
The District is proud to recognize the academic achievements of some 1060 students this week with commencement ceremonies for each of the four high schools.
Jefferson High School celebrates 300 graduates; Kennedy High School honors 427 graduates; Washington High School recognizes 278 graduates; and Metro High School congratulates 55 graduates (from both semesters). The District is also graduating students from the Home School Assistance Program and the Special Services Transition Center. Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
Commencement exercises for Metro (Wednesday, May 24), Washington (Thursday, May 25), Jefferson (Friday, May 26), and Kennedy (Saturday, May 27 will air live on KCRG 9.2 starting at 7 p.m. on each date. Commencements will be re-broadcast on KCRG 9.2 according to the schedule below.
Metro – Saturday, May 27 at 9 a.m.
Washington – Tuesday, May 30 at 7 p.m.
Jefferson – Thursday, June 1 at 7 p.m.
Kennedy – Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m.
All four Commencements will also air back-to-back on KCRG 9.2 starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 17. They will be broadcast in this order - Metro, Washington, Jefferson, Kennedy.

Hats off to Coolidge Kindergarten teacher Julie Morningstar on being named 2017 Linn County Educator of the Year. She was nominated by Jefferson teacher Kelly Panoch and chosen by a committee of educators from teachers associations in the county. Morningstar was honored at a May 9 reception along with teacher finalists Leicha Scranton, Taylor Elementary School; and Amber Tatum, Nixon Elementary School.

The Jefferson High School Drama Department presents FIDDLER ON THE ROOF May 11-13. The musical tells the story of Tevye, a Jewish milkman in early 1900s Russia, who sees his three eldest daughters married, each one moving further from traditional ways, and must cope with the growing anti-Jewish sentiment in his country.
The production is directed by Lynn Jensen and features a student company of 50. Technical direction is by Joe Link; vocal directors are Nick Oswald and Pat Fagan; the orchestra is conducted by Chad Allard.
Performances are at 7 p.m. on May 11 and 13 and at 8 p.m. on May 12. Tickets are $8 for adults; $6 for students; and $4 for senior citizens. Tickets are available at www.jhscr.booktix.com/ and at the door.
