It’s funny how far away retirement can feel… until it isn’t.

One day, Social Security is something your parents talk about. Then suddenly, you’re the one asking questions about when to claim, how much you’ll receive, and how it all fits into retirement.

That’s why I love teaching Social Security classes. These decisions aren’t just numbers on a page. They affect real people, real families, and the retirement they’ve spent decades working toward.

And yes, that’s my mom, Bear, making an appearance in the presentation. ❤️

The earlier you understand how Social Security works, the more prepared you can be when it’s your turn to make those decisions.

When you claim Social Security can have a much bigger impact than it first appears. 💰

A difference of just a few hundred dollars each month may not sound dramatic, but those dollars can add up over decades, especially once future cost-of-living adjustments and spousal benefits are considered.

The right filing age is not the same for everyone. Seeing the actual numbers side by side can help you decide whether claiming sooner or waiting makes the most sense for your retirement.

When should you actually start Social Security? 🤔

You can take it as early as 62, some people wait until full retirement age, and others hold out for a bigger check at 70. The tricky part? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Your health, income needs, and long-term plans all play a role — and once you file, that decision matters for the rest of your life. 💡

That’s why we break this down in our online and in-person classes, so you’re not guessing or relying on bad advice.

Did you know Social Security can pay a lump sum? 💰
It’s not a refund! it’s up to six months of retroactive benefits once you’ve reached full retirement age 📅.

This option only applies after full retirement age, and the lump sum simply covers the months you waited to file ⏳. It’s a small but important rule that’s easy to miss if no one explains it.

If you’re close to filing, this is something worth understanding before you decide.

Your Social Security benefit may increase over time thanks to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).📈
It's designed to help benefits keep up as prices
change year to year.
Many people don't realize this update is typically announced each October, which can impact planning for the year ahead.
Staying informed can help you make smarter retirement decisions.

Most people don't realize Social Security pays a small one-time death benefit when a loved one passes away. It's only $255 💵 and while that doesn't go far today, it's still something families often miss simply because they didn't know it existed. This benefit hasn't changed in decades, so it's important to understand what it is (and what it isn't) ahead of time.💡
Knowing what paperwork to file can save stress during an already difficult moment.

Filing for Social Security is a big decision, and a few common mistakes could reduce the benefits you receive over retirement. 📉

Claiming too early, earning above the limit before full retirement age, or overlooking spousal benefits can all affect your monthly income. The good news is that understanding your options before you file can help you make a more confident decision.

Join us in person or attend an upcoming webinar to learn how Social Security works and discover strategies that may help you get more from your benefits.

Losing a spouse can change more than your emotional life—it can also change your monthly retirement income. ❤️

In most cases, you won’t continue receiving two full Social Security checks. Instead, you may receive your own benefit or a survivor benefit based on your spouse’s record, generally whichever provides the higher monthly amount.

There may also be a valuable filing strategy: some surviving spouses can collect survivor benefits first, allow their own retirement benefit to keep growing, and switch later. The right choice depends on your age, benefit amounts, and whether you’ve already filed.

Before making a decision, compare both options carefully. A little planning can make a meaningful difference in your long-term income.
