June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month, with PTSD Awareness Day falling on the 27th.

Signs and symptoms of PTSD include, but are not limited to, intrusive memories, avoidance (of people, places, or activities), changes in physical and emotional reactions, difficulties concentrating, overwhelming guilt or shame, and more.

If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD, see a doctor, reach out to a friend or loved one, and call 911 in an emergency.

Congratulations to Kristin Mossman and Rachel Koop on receiving the "2020-2021 Graduate Assistant First Award"! Both of these ladies embody servant leadership and genuine care for students.

As the SAS Graduate Coordinator, Kristin has ensured students connecting with the department access their right to an accessible educational environment at the University. Kristin continuously evaluates our processes and procedures to identify efficiencies and how SAS can better support students. She supervises the student staff and develops professional development plans to facilitate their growth as employees with SAS and skills for their future career goals. Kristin truly is the third professional staff member of the team - going above and beyond in her work while also balancing full-time classes and internships across campus.

As the Dean of Students Graduate Assistant, Rachel has served as a caring and passionate campus partner with SAS. Whenever SAS staff has referred a student to Rachel, Rachel is quick to offer guidance and additional support while meeting students where they are at in their academic and personal lives. Sometimes students just need someone to listen to their concerns and help navigate their next steps; Rachel models excellence in this area. We are grateful for Rachel as a colleague and advocate for students.

Both Kristin and Rachel will be greatly missed, but we are excited to see the next steps in their professional and personal lives and their continued growth. Thank you for all you have done for UNI students, faculty, and staff!

We are so proud of our student employee Hallie Alida Speed for being chosen as a finalist for the Student Employee of the Year at UNI! Our office would not be able to run without our student employees. Hallie goes above and beyond for the students we serve and it does not go unnoticed!

Congratulations Hallie!

Finalist: Hallie Speed, Student Accessibility Services
Nominated by Jenny Lynes

Student Accessibility Services could not run without Hallie. Hallie constantly wants to ensure our department is doing everything in our power and legal requirements to remove barriers to access for students with disabilities. She is thinking two steps ahead. I am immensely proud of Hallie and the work our department is able to accomplish because of her.

Congratulations to Kristin Mossman, SAS Graduate Coordinator, on earning her ADA Coordinator certification! Kristin started the process late last spring, and due to her commitment and passion, she earned all 40 credits needed to sit for the final exam in around 7 months. From learning the regulations for the different titles of the ADA to how to create accessible environments within employment, education, and social media, Kristin demonstrated her commitment to ensuring equal access and supporting greater inclusion for individuals with disabilities. This certification prepares Kristin to work in a wide variety of fields, so we are excited to see where it takes her. Please join SAS in celebrating Kristin and her major accomplishment!
