“Volonté” is a French word meaning “the will and determination to achieve something, even when it is difficult or challenging,” and it is a perfect title to encapsulate the experience of all of this year’s graduating BFA seniors, no matter their area of study.
The Senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition showcases the culmination of each graduating student’s time in the Department of Filmmaking, Art, and Design at SUU. The students’ capstone projects will be on display, demonstrating their ability to visualize, develop, and create a cohesive body of work to kick-start their careers in the professional art world. This exhibit will include work from a variety of artistic disciplines: filmmaking, graphic design, illustration, photography, painting, drawing, and printmaking.
This exhibition will be open from March 28-April 24. Please join us for an opening reception for Volonté on March 31, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Take a step back in time with a special documentary screening at Southern Utah University.
PBS Utah and the Department of Filmmaking, Art, & Design will host a free screening of the new documentary “Utah in the ‘70s” on March 25, 2026, from 6-8:00 p.m. in Bristlecone Hall, 105. The film explores a transformative decade in Utah history, when emerging cultural movements challenged long-standing traditions and institutions. More than just disco and counterculture, the 1970s were a period of major social, political, and economic change that helped shape the Utah we know today.
Following the screening, join us for a Q&A with Cedar City historian Ryan Paul and PBS Utah Station Manager James Davie, who will discuss the stories, people, and events that defined the era.
This event is free and open to the public. Please ESVP by March 21 to Jessica Rasekhi at [email protected]. Guests may reserve up to four seats.
This screening is presented as part of SUU’s Founders Celebration and America250 | Iron County.
