Shout out to Southern Utah University athletic department. Athletes really showed up for ICSD students on the first day of school. The younger kiddos felt special as the cheerleaders and other athletes cheered them on as they entered school. Fight ... Win T-Birds!

Schools are back in session. A few safety reminders as you travel through the community between the hours of about 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Slow to 20 MPH in a School Zone when lights are on.
* Prior to entering school zone, be aware of walking, biking students making their way to school.
* Drivers must come to a complete stop and remain stopped for any person occupying a school crosswalk — regardless of which side of the road the pedestrian is on. Do not proceed until student and/or crossing guard is on the sidewalk.
* Know the bus stops in your neighborhood. Drive slowly when approaching a bus during pick up and drop off.
* Stop! Do not pass if bus Stop Arm is out!

New faces in old places! It was a first day of school for Three Peaks Elementary Principal Ike Spencer. He replaced Paula Burgoyne who retired. Also new to the role, but not new to Launch High is Cody Christensen. He is now Vice Principal at Launch High. Here's hoping they survived those first day jitters!

Cedar Middle School Student Council members have been putting in time and work before school even started. Advisors Machelle Maxwell and Shaynae Gubler organized three days of training and team building so the students could be ready to serve staff, students and teachers through their servant leadership hearts.

Students focused on identifying a school culture challenge with Mary Saylor using PBL engineering models, and using teamwork strategies to help the whole group succeed with Rachel Maxwell. Students enjoyed their first leadership luncheon with the CMS administration, incorporating leadership strategies in listening and speaking while collaborating and networking with peers and guests.

"It was really fun, and I enjoyed getting the time to listen and visit with these students," Principal Bylynda Murray said.

Schools throughout the district welcomed students back. Many were finding their way around new schools with boundary changes at most of the elementary schools. Others moved up into a secondary school. Back-to-school nights help the students feel comfortable about attending the first day. Remember school begins Wednesday, August 12!
