Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program Nationally-accredited EMS training program in Southwest Virginia offering courses from EMT level through Paramedic, as well CE and ancillary courses.

The Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program is a nationally-accredited EMS training program hosted at five different sites across the southwestern portion of the Commonwealth. The flagship site of the program is at Southwest Virginia Community College, and the other sites include Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap; Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon; Wytheville Community College; and the Crossroads Institute in Galax. Courses are offered in initial certification and continuing education for all levels of basic and advanced life support, as well as bridge programs for RNs and other licensed healthcare providers. The Program draws students from all over Southwest Virginia, as well as from bordering regions of Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Students are afforded the opportunity to participate in a number of clinical rotations as there are standing agreements with many hospital systems and EMS agencies across the Commonwealth, as well as in other states.

Ready to take the next step in your EMS career?

Applications are now open for our Paramedic Bridge Program for currently certified:

- Registered Nurses (RNs) (with EMT certification)
- Advanced EMTs (AEMTs)
- EMT-Intermediates

Classes will be held on Fridays at our Lebanon and Bluefield locations, making it easier for working professionals to advance their education while maintaining their current schedules, beginning January 2027.
