Learn how to make your own or if no time check out a local Farmers Market for homemade goods. Cavalier Farmers Market open today from 3-6.

School is back in session! Today's lesson looks at how to make apple/crabapple jelly.

To extract juice from apples, wash them but do not pare or core (to preserve pectin), then cut in small pieces.

Firm fruit like apples usually requires some cooking and a small amount of water (about one cup water per pound apples). After adding water, bring to a boil and stir constantly. Apples should be cooked for about 20 minutes.

Schools across Pembina County are getting ready to open their doors to students. Are you stocked up on after-school snacks? Making foods together as a family is a great way to build skills, create memories and encourage kids to try new foods. These homemade fruit leather recipes are a fun, simple snack to make together—and a tasty way to enjoy the last of summer’s fruit!

Fruit leathers are nutritious, high-energy snacks for children and adults. Fruit leathers are portable, making them convenient additions to school lunchboxes or backpacks.

The following fruits were rated as “excellent” or “good” by the University of Georgia for preparing fruit leather: apples, apricots, berries, cherries, nectarines, peaches, pears, pineapple, plums and strawberries.

Your reports matter. While Pembina County is not currently classified as being in drought, conditions can change quickly. If dry conditions begin affecting your crops, pastures, water supplies, or other agricultural operations, please consider submitting a local drought impact report.

Local observations and photos help paint an accurate picture of conditions across North Dakota and can influence updates to the U.S. Drought Monitor, which helps trigger state and federal drought assistance programs.
