The same movement can feel tender, powerful, or bold depending on how the dancers feels the music.

Thats why we work on more than remembering the choreography. We explore the accents, the moments, and the lingering.

Thats where your interpretation begins, and a combination becomes a performance.

"Listen to what happens right here."
That little instruction can change an entire performance.
A dancer hears an accent and give a movement more attention.
A singer hears a pause and lets the lyric a bit of space to breathe.
In studio we spend time listening as much as we practice. Where does the music build? What ; deserves stillness? What feeling presents itself?
Those decisions help the student make choices.

The moment between the steps is still.part of the dance....
A held count can create anticipation, laughter, drama and a sense of letting them feel. We like to let it simmer. It give pause for communication, a look, a breath a smile...share what youre looking for the audience to relate to.

Take a moment to Feel the message. Ground yourself in the music. We love being inside the music. Its a special peaceful space.

Finish the reach, let the lyric land,
Give.the audience.a moment to feel what youve just done.
Knowing whats next isnt a reason to rush through whats happenimg in the present moment. Thats why we work on artistry, giving each part moment its intention.
A dance can have every peice in place but still needs a story.
A song can have every note, and still need YOU...

What are you saying?
Where does the breath belong?
What happens in the pause?
What does the lyric chamge within you?
Can the audience feel the shift before you take the next step?
Technique gives the performer a vocabulary.
Artistry gives the vocabulary something worth saying amd that transformation wjere artistry makes the vision come to life is my favorite part.
Dance and voice = performance.

An amazing quote from one of my teachers, I still live by. Technique matters, but Joy is what keeps us moving, growing and believing in ourselves.
Our fall classes are underway here, in Catskill, and its not too late to join us.
