The UMBC Upward Bound Program serves students who attend Coppin Academy, Patterson, Chesapeake, Overlea, Kenwood and Parkville High Schools

UMBC’s Upward Bound Program is in search of instructors for our Summer Enrichment Program. Qualified applicants must have at least a 4-year college degree in pertinent field and experience teaching high school students. It runs June 20- July 28 2022.

Science Teacher - must be able to teach Biology & Chemistry. Experience teaching Anatomy & Physiology a plus.

Science Teacher - must be able to teach Physics & Chemistry.

College Admissions Teacher - must be able to lead a class of 20-25 high school seniors. Must have computer skills, and knowledge in MS Word, collecting data. Must facilitate the college application process, writing a college essay, applying for financial aid & scholarships, and knowledgeable in other pertinent information needed for them to successfully enter a college or university.

Financial Literacy Teacher - Must be able to teach an investment class on stocks & options. A beginners class to investing. By the end students should know how to pick stocks & have a beginners level understanding of options trading strategies. Qualified applicants should have a 4-yr college degree in Finance, Economics, or another pertinent field. Previous experience working with high school students not mandatory for this position.

Some of you may remember Sherman Reed, Jr., an alumni of Catonsville High who participated in CUB around 2005-06. His life was tragically taken on August 15. The funeral arrangements are noted below.

His family has set up a Go Fund Me to create a college fund and support his dream of his 8 year old son one day going to college.

The wake and funeral will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at New Psalmist Baptist Church, 6020 Marian Drive at 10 and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
The repast will be held at Diamondz, 9980 Liberty Rd., Randallstown, MD, (410) 521-1155.

September 1, 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of Upward Bound being funded at UMBC. Alumni regularly ask about a reunion. We need your help!

Responsibilities include providing instruction in high school Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science to students in
grades 9-12 who participate in the Classic Upward Bound Program. Develop original stand-alone lessons
to reinforce concepts required for mastery of the specific subject. Teach developed lessons and provide
academic assistance during our Saturday Academy. Participation in all staff training and staff meetings
also required. Position Runs through June 1, 2019, with potential for Summer employment.

Requires: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field required. Master’s preferred. Must be comfortable working with high school students. Must have knowledge of classroom instruction practices and show ability to teach content listed above.
