🌱In garden class this week, fifth and sixth graders put the final touches on their artwork for compost porters and games. TK through first graders did some exploration and detective work to try and figure out who made holes in the garden beds and nibbled plants. There was an exciting visitor to the milkweed in the garden!

Our 3rd & 4th graders headed to the library today for a really fun field trip! Students got to hear a few books read aloud, played & molded with clay, & went on a scavenger hunt! We love our local library & the staff are so amazing! Thank you for being great hosts Mariposa County Library!

🕸️ Mrs. Burton’s middle science class got a new class pet this week! 🕷️We have a Caribena Versicolor aka Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula. Meet Gwen! We spent our Friday afternoon learning about tarantulas and how to care for our new pet. We fed her some crickets and observed her behavior. She is a very small juvenile spider but will grow with time. 🕸️

🐶🎨 Penny’s close-up is ready! Now for the big Halloween decision! 🎃

Last Friday, our 3rd & 4th graders put their artistic skills to work drawing Penny, our certified campus pup—and she took her modeling job VERY seriously! 🐾 The students also shared their best ideas for what Penny should dress up as for Halloween this year. We think she deserves a treat for being such a good sport!

🌪️🏠 Can your house survive the wind?

Our C**ts became engineers as they explored natural hazards like tornadoes, hurricanes, and dust storms! Students built their own paper houses, then got creative with limited materials to design ways to make their homes strong enough to withstand a windstorm.

🚙🧪To wrap up our chemistry unit, the students in 5th and 6th grade created their own cars which they then attempted to propel with CO2 from the chemical reaction of baking soda and vinegar. We worked on building the cars over three days and tested the cars with trials. Students had opportunities for trial and error and to improve their cars while thinking about if it was the car, the pressure or the chemical reaction!

Last week in Room 1, , we had some fun with music and our colorful scarves! 🎶🍂 We welcomed Fall by pretending to be leaves floating and falling to the ground, and then the kiddos got to take the lead and create their own silly movements for the class to copy. So much fun watching their little personalities shine! 🥰

We also got creative and made our own Fall trees using torn paper! 🍁🌳 The kiddos loved choosing their colors and creating their own little fall masterpieces.

We also read The Little Engine That Could as we introduced our new Core Virtue, Perseverance! We talked about not giving up when something feels hard and remembering to say, “I think I can!” 💪❤️
