Very early in the school year I made it a point to have a conversation with my students about how not only are they learning about history but everyday they are living through what will one day become history. We also talked about how studying recent history is important because it impacts so much of our world today.

Today was one of those days where we learned not about the ancient world but the events that shaped our world today. Students watched and discussed a documentary that highlighted heroes from 9/11 as they shared stories of their selflessness and heroism that day. Today we honored the lives of those who were lost in the World Trade Center.

Hi!! My name is Brenda Castro and I am SO excited that you’re here! This is my second year at James Workman and I’ll be teaching 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies as well as 7th grade World History. I am looking forward to sharing all of the great things that go on in my classroom throughout this year.
To get started, I thought I would first share a little about myself.
* I was born and raised in the Coachella Valley.
* I am a middle child of three kids and the only girl.
* I was recently married and this will be my first year with my new name.
* I attended Grand Canyon University where I received my Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Education.
* I am a lover of all things Disney.
* I treat myself to Starbucks every Friday before school.

Hi, I’m Jocelyn, or as your student knows me: Mrs. Deniz! ✨
I want to share a little about myself so you know who your student is spending a few hours of their day with 😊
I currently teach 6th grade math, science, & AVID at JWMS. I came from teaching 6th grade elementary & 8th grade math, science, & SS in the San Bernardino City school district a couple years ago. My husband & I moved to Palm Desert 🌴 & I became a Bighorn!
I love to paper craft, play tennis, go to the movie theater, rewatch Friends & New Girl, & vacation on Disney cruises 🛳️
We don’t have children of our own so my students are like our kids. I say that to show the love & dedication I give to all my students, your student included ❤️
I can’t wait to share w you all the learning & fun activities your 6th grader will be experiencing w me in room 211! 📚 stay tuned ✨
