Be the good in the world…these students took that to heart behind the spark of Alivia I’s idea. She saw the need for our parking lot to be spruced up with new mulch. She had some left over funding from her Gold Award Project for Girl Scouts and decided to use it to purchase mulch. We hear she even negotiated the price! She enlisted the help of a few friends—Michael, Dalton, & AJ—and now has our campus looking great for the first day of school. Thank you Alivia and friends for seeing a need and for being a spark!

Meet Lisa Ormand - CTE Teacher - Fashion & Interior Design

Lisa Ormand brings a varied career to Bandys — an Interior Design degree, years in the furniture industry, and a lateral-entry teaching path — now 1.5 years at Bandys and 21 years total in Catawba County Schools. A West Rowan High graduate originally from Salisbury, outside of school she enjoys hiking, kayaking, camping, and spending time with her family and dogs. She loves the unmatched community that surrounds Bandys students.

What is your favorite part of working with our students? the relationships I get to build with them each day. They show me respect on a daily basis, and that makes coming to work something I truly enjoy. I also love seeing the way they treat each other. Even though they come from different backgrounds and have different experiences, they are willing to help one another, encourage each other, and work together when someone needs support. Watching those moments reminds me that we're helping shape not only good students, but good people. What inspires me the most is seeing their desire to grow. They want to learn, improve, and become smarter and more successful than they were yesterday.

What advice would you give to students? Be present, ask questions, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. I tell my students that I care more about their effort and willingness to improve than being perfect. To Parents: stay connected and encourage your child to take pride in their work. When students know they have support at home and at school, they can accomplish amazing things.

What is your favorite memory from when you were in school? My favorite memory is the day I graduated from BHS on the football field. It was the last time we would ever all be together in the same place. Many of them, I had attended school with for the previous 13 years.

She loves building relationships and getting to know each student. Outside of school she enjoys watching all types of sports and attending sporting events with her family.
