We all have a decision to make: Be part of the division, or help bring unity. We must look past all of the rhetoric, and love unconditionally, even those we don't understand or may disagree with.

Weathering the Storm In Mark chapter 4, Mark tells us of when Jesus and the disciples were in a boat crossing the sea of Galilee. The Bible tells us that the boat left in the evening. So it’s dark, there’s …
Philippians 4:4-8 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. (5) Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; (6) do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (7) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

As Christians, there is an expectation that we will grow and mature, living a life that is disciplined. Paul draws a likeness between the life of the Christian and an athlete. We have all seen world-class athletes. They discipline their bodies, dieting and training to be in peak physical condition.
Christian disciplines are much the same: they help mold us and ready us for the life we live in Christ. Disciplines don’t just happen though. We are called to submit our bodies and minds to the will of God.
1 Timothy 4:7-8 says, “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
Over the next several weeks, we will look at several disciplines that each Christian should be practicing daily.

This Sunday we are celebrating the second week of Advent. Prepare the way of the Lord.
How much of this season is focused on Jesus?
If you have Santa on the mantle, an elf on a shelf, and an angel on the tree but Jesus is missing; you're doing it wrong.
Prepare the way. Prepare your heart. Make Jesus the focus.
I invite you to join us this Sunday as we prepare ourselves for the coming King, on our continuing Journey to Bethlehem.

This Sunday, join us as we continue our study in the book of James. Castro Valley First Baptist Church, 18550 Redwood.
We live in a day, when many deny the very existence of God himself, while those who believe, have an expectation of salvation without responsibility.
Join us this Sunday as we look at James chapter 2 and the relationship of faith and action.
This week we will be looking at James chapter 2. How do we judge others? Do we cater to the rich and powerful, or treat them the same; and how do we treat the poor and disenfranchised? Do we love our neighbors as ourselves? How do we live this out?
