Tempo Dance Families,

I first want to share a moment of gratitude with you all from the bottom of my heart. And I mean it. Having a dance studio, creating a community, and sharing triumphs with dancers and parents alike have a special place in my soul. I am incredibly honored to have been a part of it.

Nine seasons. I opened the studio in 2016 knowing absolutely no one. Our first classes were in a Krav Maga fitness center. From there, we sublet a space downtown to my very own garage where we are now. It’s been our sanctuary for years. During COVID, high rental costs, etc. It was the answer we needed and has kept costs down for families to have opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t receive in another place.

I will never forget this little pocket of happiness we’ve created together.

Season 10 will look different. Probably in ways that don’t sync with everyone, however, it’s all I can give at this moment in time. So let me start by ripping the band-aid off, first and foremost:

There won’t be any more seasons past season 10.

This is something that I’ve been thinking of for some time for a multitude of reasons, but it essentially boils down to my family and what they currently need from me. They need me around more, they need my attention, and I need them desperately. And while solutions could be made to free up time for myself, it’s also time for my home to be my home.

Soooo…. What does season 10 look like?

Nutcracker:
The Nutcracker will remain the same. Auditions in September, performance in December. For all levels.

Competition:
Competition will remain the same. Auditions in August, with our majority of seasons taking place in the Spring. Same thing as last: three competitions.

Recreational classes:
We’re going to focus solely on levels 3-5 to get them prepped for other studios in the area. Up their technique, free up time in the studio. This means that our 9th season this is the final year for combo and levels 1-2. Yes, if you go to another studio and still want
to participate in The Nutcracker, that is a possibility. There will be a 10th and final recital for levels 3-5.

What does The Nutcracker look like beyond season 10? If there is a demand to keep it going, I’d be happy to keep it going where my only responsibility is The Nutcracker alone… within the scope of another studio or perhaps through the rec center, I will find a way if that’s important to my students.

I don’t make this decision lightly and it breaks me to even reach this point. However, I am ready to retire from this chapter of my life. Again, I am honored to have been entrusted to this role as a mentor, as a second mom, and as a cheerleader. These aren’t titles that I take for granted and I’ll carry them with me forever.
But it’s time for me to be more present for my own children, for my own family, and for myself.

I love you all. And if you have any questions, please let me know!

Love, Miss Sara
