For those of you looking for work…

Find time everyday to steal away and find peace. ✌️

Trust that this will all work out- you will find something! ☀️

If you’re feeling down- call a friend, connect with someone in the same spot and give one another hope. Seek out professional help if you are feeling overwhelmed. Take care of you! 💆‍♂️

Pace yourself- try setting weekly goals that are attainable and also enjoy the time you have off. 🌅

Measure your progress based on meeting the goals you set, not landing a job (this is a key shift). 📐

Remember that work, while important and good for us, isn’t our ultimate good and isn’t the purpose of our lives. 💟

Connect to goodness daily- whatever that looks like for you- the stuff that’s deeper than pleasure. 🌸

Know that all of us in the career field are pulling for you❣️

When I launched my career coaching business a decade ago, I knew I had to dig deep. I wasn't content with just offering advice – I wanted to understand the science behind job satisfaction.

So, I did what any self-respecting geek would do: I dove headfirst into the research. 📚🤓

The result? A comprehensive framework of the key elements that truly make us happy at work. Whether you're contemplating a career move or simply want to boost your current job satisfaction, understanding these factors can be a game-changer.

Check out my latest blog post, where I break down the 5 crucial components of job satisfaction. It's not just theory – it's 10 years of practical application distilled into one reader-friendly guide. A quick read.

Job satisfaction is a complex and personal experience, but research has identified several key factors that contribute to how we feel about our work. Understanding these elements can help you assess your current job or make informed decisions about your career path. Let's explore the five main compo...

Feeling chronically bored at work? You may be experiencing 'boreout' - a phenomenon as damaging as burnout. Boreout occurs when we feel our work is meaningless and tasks are devoid of value. It can lead to health issues, job dissatisfaction, and high turnover.

Signs include feeling under-challenged and purposeless for prolonged periods.

Ways to combat it:
▶ Take on more interesting work tasks
▶ Communicate with managers about finding new challenges
▶ Focus on building good workplace relationships
▶ Seek roles that align with your values and interests

Remember, it's okay to reassess your career path if you're consistently unfulfilled. I'm curious how prevalent this is today. Feel free to comment below.

Being chronically bored at work can have damaging consequences – and we need to talk about it more, say experts.

To all job seekers out there, especially those who've been on this journey for a while: Your resilience is admirable. Let's channel that strength into a more structured approach:

Set weekly goals: Break down your job search into manageable tasks. Commit to specific actions each week.
Evaluate your success: At week's end, assess whether you accomplished what you set out to do. Success isn't just landing a job; it's consistently taking steps towards it.
Analyze your strategy: If your current approach isn't yielding results, it's time to pivot. Remember, endlessly applying on job boards might feel productive, but it's often not the most effective method.
Prioritize networking: Make it a goal to reach out to new contacts each week, whether through email or LinkedIn. Aim for career conversations, not just job applications.
Stay consistent: Small, daily actions compound over time. Your persistent efforts will pay off.

Remember, your success in this job search isn't defined by immediate results, but by your consistent dedication to the process. Keep pushing forward, one step at a time. Your perseverance will lead you to the right opportunity.

I just want to say this isn't just about degrees, though. In today's competitive job market, continuous learning is key. Here are some ways to boost your quantitative skills and marketability:

✅ Pursue relevant certifications in data analysis, statistics, or programming
Attend free workshops or webinars on quantitative topics in your field
✅ Explore courses through local workforce development programs
✅ Leverage your college's career center resources (even as an alumnus!)
✅ Seek out mentorship opportunities with quantitative experts in your industry

Remember, every field has a quantitative aspect. By enhancing these skills, you're not just following a trend – you're future-proofing your career.
What steps are you taking to upskill?

While I respect Roosevelt's sentiment, I believe there are far greater prizes in life. However, finding work that suits us is fundamental to living an enjoyable existence.
Consider this: The average person spends about 90,000 hours of their life working. That's equivalent to:

📌 3,750 days
📌 10.3 years of non-stop work
📌 37.5% of your waking hours over a 50-year career

With so much of our lives dedicated to work, it's crucial to make it matter. What are you doing to ensure your work aligns with your values and brings fulfillment?

The state you live in matters, but your major and internships matter more for career success. Research shows that internships, especially paid ones, significantly impact post-graduation outcomes:

🌏 Higher-paying jobs after graduation
🌏 Increased likelihood of landing degree-requiring roles
🌏 Greater job satisfaction

Despite 70% of first-year students planning to intern, less than half actually do, and only a quarter secure paid internships. Hiring a career coach can help with accountability!

States are recognizing this gap. Virginia aims to make internships available to all interested students, while California and Indiana are increasing funding for paid internships.

Key takeaway: Prioritize internships and work-based learning opportunities during your education. They're becoming increasingly crucial for workforce preparation and can significantly boost your career prospects.

Navigating your career path? Understanding your interests and core motivations can be transformative. Let's explore two insightful frameworks that can guide your career discovery:

Holland Codes: This model categorizes career interests into six themes:
🔹Realistic
🔹Investigative
🔹Artistic
🔹Social
🔹Enterprising
🔹Conventional

Indigo Assessment Motivators: These hidden drivers shape your career satisfaction:
🔹Theoretical
🔹Utilitarian
🔹Aesthetic
🔹Social
🔹Individualistic
🔹Traditional

Fascinating connections exist between these frameworks:
✴️ Artistic (Holland) aligns with Aesthetic (Indigo)
✴️ Social appears in both models
✴️ Investigative (Holland) pairs well with Theoretical (Indigo)
✴️ Enterprising (Holland) complements Individualistic (Indigo)
✴️ Interestingly, while Conventional (Holland) and Utilitarian (Indigo) might seem similar, they often lead to different career paths. Conventional leans towards structured, hands-on roles, while Utilitarian focuses on financial rewards and efficiency.
