Alamo Area Exploring

Alamo Area Exploring Exploring, a part of Boy Scouts of America's affiliate called Learning for Life, is the coed career oriented program of the Alamo Area Council.

In 1998, Exploring functioned as a career education program and was subsequently shifted to fall under the Learning for Life program umbrella. In early 2013, after 18 months of piloting the program in 17 local councils, Learning for Life obtained official approval to start the Explorer Club program for sixth- through eighth-graders. The Explorer Club program was created in response to the U.S. Dep

artment of Education’s recent emphasis on career education at the elementary grade levels. Exploring is a proven leadership program that provides real-world career experiences for 10-20 yr. olds and is delivered through partnerships with thousands of businesses. Exploring emphasizes mentoring, internships, and community service while also providing social and career networking opportunities. Exploring is aligned to the 16 US Dept. of Ed career clusters.

There is also a Medical Explorer Post in San Marcos, with our neighbor Capital Area Council. Explorers from Post 784, Texas A&M University-San Antonio Police Department, volunteered this past weekend at the Council-wide Campout. Their station was the demonstration of the Felony Traffic Stop practical scenario. One of the many types of practical exercises Explorers train and compete in at conferences and competitions.
