Convocation 2026

As part of Regimental Preparatory Training, incoming students started the day learning to paddle a Monomoy, developing teamwork skills and building connections with their classmates on Penobscot Bay.

RPT starts NOW. ⚓

The next chapter begins today as a new class of MUGs — Midshipmen Under Guidance — reports to Maine Maritime Academy for Regimental Preparatory Training.

For the next week, these newest members of the Regiment will learn the standards, skills and traditions that define life as a Maine Maritime midshipman. Guiding them along the way are our upperclassmen, the Strikers, who are ready to teach, challenge and support their MUGs every step of the way.

And what better place to begin than aboard the STATE OF MAINE — the Academy’s newest training ship and a powerful reminder of what lies ahead.

To the MUGs: embrace the challenge, learn from those around you and remember that every journey starts with a first step.

To the Strikers: make it count. Your leadership will help shape the next generation of Maine Maritime midshipmen.

🌊 What impact are “forever chemicals” having on Penobscot Bay?

Join Maine Maritime Academy Ocean Studies professors Drs. Carey Friedman and LeAnn Whitney on August 18 as they share findings from two summers of research into PFAS in Penobscot Bay and the Penobscot River, including their work examining impacts on local marine waters and the base of the marine food web.
