I just heard that Bob Farley passed away. Very sad news Bob was one of the original Cassville Alumni founders. He was always a kind and caring person. A quite man so when he spoke you listened. Because it was important and meaningful. We haven't had a reunion since before the pandemic. Which unfortunately is sad because as a member of the organization and planing i got so much joy watching people see old friends and tell stories. I believe starting the reunion was Bob's idea. They were at a funeral and made the comment we should get together not only when people pass away. I wish there was more men like Bob in this world. Prayers to his family 🙏.

I know this isn't from Cassville but I wanted to share . It was my aunts from stumptown school in 1941. Who remembers the old paper report cards. Things were different back then

Osage WV in 1938 and now.
Then: Monongahela Railway's engine #104 leads a train of loaded coal cars through the town of Osage. This was part of the railroad's Scotts Run Branch. In the distance can be seen the top of Pursglove Mine Tipple #1 where this train might have been loaded. Note the sign on the left for "Stanley Ponek Justice of the Peace" and the barber shop sign. Mr Ponek was both the town Justice and the town barber. Engine #104 was a class H-1 2-8-0 constructed in 1898 by the Pittsburgh Locomotive and Car Works.

Now: The building with the barber shop was extended and converted into apartments. Around the corner is the Scotts Run Museum that is only open on Saturday. A couple of the houses in old photo are still there but the Osage Spot and many other businesses have left town. Tracks were removed in the 1970's. Although the hill in the background appears to be lower it has never been strip mined. Difference might be caused by tree cover.

It is believed the very first observance of Father's Day actually took place in Fairmont, West Virginia, July 5, 1908. It was organized by Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers who had been lost in a mining disaster that happened in December 1907.
