We have another citizens award 🥇

The first day of school is very hectic making sure everyone gets on the right bus for home. Without being asked, this nice boy took the hand of one of his classmates and guided him down the ramp to the correct bus. He showed responsibility and kindness to that friend. Way to go!

The Cass City PROMISE is pleased to announce they have received a $25,000 grant from the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) for Mr. Woloshen to teach Life Skills to 6th Graders during the 2026-2027 school year! Last spring, Mr. Fernald and Mr. Woloshen discussed the possibility of adding a Life Skills class for 6th Grade. Over the summer, Mrs. Janet Richards and Mr. Woloshen met to outline the various components of a quality Life Skills class. Mrs. Richards incorporated those ideas into a CEDAM grant and recently confirmed that the grant was awarded in full! The plan is to develop a comprehensive Life Skills curriculum (and supplies) that will support the future continuation of the Life Skills class.

While topics have not been finalized, Mr. Woloshen tentatively plans to begin instruction in three areas:
1) Financial Literacy: career exploration, job applications, paychecks, saving and investing, and retirement planning;
2) Basic Home Maintenance: cleaning, tool use, basic car care (including changing a tire and changing oil), and basic woodworking (including building birdhouses and bird feeders for Cass City residents); and
3) Basic Cooking Skills: shopping, preparation techniques, and safe food storage.

In addition to learning these important life skills, students will be especially enthused about community-based, hands-on learning experiences woven into many of the activities!

Mr. Woloshen is excited about the benefits of this new class and has already created a suggestion box for students to contribute their ideas on topics they would like covered! This class is a work in progress, but proves--once again--that Cass City Schools cares about the futures of all students and continues to be an educational leader in the Thumb!

Congrats to these students for earning the Citizens Award!! 🥇

Here is some of the message that was forwarded to me:

I’m hoping this somehow makes its way to the right parents, because you deserve to hear this. ❤️

After my son’s appointment today, we stopped at McDonald’s and there was a young girl there with her two younger brothers. All three were blonde, absolutely adorable and sweet as pie. 😂

I was genuinely SO impressed by these kids. The older sister was incredibly mature and attentive to her brothers, and all three were polite, respectful and so well-behaved. They cleaned up after themselves, used great manners and did all of it without a parent standing there reminding them or anyone watching to give them credit.

My son is VERY high energy, has never met a stranger and will basically ask you to be his best friend within 30 seconds. 😂 He has the biggest heart, and these kids were SO sweet to him. They included him, played with him and treated him like he was already one of their little crew.

To whoever is raising these three sweet kids: you are doing something right. Their character showed when they didn’t know anyone was paying attention. I really hope this reaches their family, because you should be incredibly proud of the kind little humans you’re raising. ❤️

Our cell phone and electronic device policy follows Michigan requirements and helps keep students focused and engaged throughout the school day.

Please take a moment to review the expectations below with your student. Remember that expectations differ slightly for 7th–8th grade and 9th–12th grade students, particularly during lunch.
