Uniform Memories on the I grew up in Casper group site.: There was a decades-old uniform dress code in effect in the Natrona County school system during most of the 1960s. The dress code mandates included dark colored skirts (black or dark blue) no higher than the knee and white blouses for girls, boys had to wear button-up shirts and long pants. Boys were also to keep hair cut short, it couldn't come over the ear or the shirt collar.
I was suspended from DMJH in 1967 during the last quarter of 8th grade and later expelled from 9th grade for long hair. The story, including my mom's appeal to the school board, was covered by the Star-Tribune and KTWO TV and went national. The school board revisited their policies a couple of years later when it appeared a lawsuit involving a UW law student and the ACLU was imminent and dropped the dress code. We had to wear uniforms everyday except, Friday and I'm thinking it was the last Friday of the month. This was in 62-63-64. If they thought our skirt was too short had to go to Mrs Sciefer's office get down on our knees and if the skirt didn't touch the floor, home you went. Treva Hensley
