International Student Exchange (ISE) fulfills its mission of “Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders” by bringing together foreign teens, volunteer host families, and local American high schools. The ISE exchange program allows students to become familiar with the American way of life by experiencing American schools, families, and communities. American families learn about foreign cultures and make lasting friendships with the students hosted in their homes.

Becoming a host family is a great experience! It’s also a great experience for the student as well!

Just some words to the ones who may have a internet in hosting a exchange student.

Several months may pass between your initial orientation and your student’s arrival. Don’t forget the critical information covered during this meeting, such as:

Don’t treat your exchange student as a guest, treat them as a member of your family
Be sure to explain to your student how to find/use things around your house – it may be very different from what he/she is used to (particularly bathrooms – which vary greatly by country!)
Establish and communicate household rules and expectations as soon as possible
Be aware of all important contacts and numbers (Your rep, ISE headquarters, Your student’s insurance, etc.)

As the area representative for ISE I will recruit and screen prospective host families, supervise the exchange student through out the year.
