Karate was a hit! 🥋Although our class was small, the hits were strong!

This week Sensei April, along with Sensei Perkins , taught beginner techniques and form, the class even got to break some wooden boards! Next week, they will build on their techniques, work on self discipline and grow their strength.

Starting September 15th at 12:30 we will be providing a 4 week series music appreciation class, for ages 8 and up!

Bassic Music founder, Antonio Fato is providing a music appreciation class here at Mountainside Nature Center! He is sharing his passion for music and how we can have a new appreciation for music. Even if you have no prior music knowledge or skills, this class is going to introduce some music skills and grow upon each other each week!

What a better way to enjoy the nice cooler weather than to come join us in the great outdoors!

Our program focus this week are animals! We will be learning about different animals tracks we might see outside, creating replicas of their habitats, exploring their world on a scavenger hunt and making some leaf collages of some animals we might see outside!

Was anyone able to guess our newest native species? If you guessed tree frogs, you are correct!

We are now the home of 3 green tree frogs! Usually people think tree frogs only live in the rainforest but we have 9 different species of tree frogs here in Maryland! These guys are great at camouflaging, as you can see. If anyone has any name suggestions for these 3, comment below!

It's not too late to join us for Story time and Craft!

Every Thursday at 9am, families are welcome to bring their entire family to listen to a story and do a craft based on that weeks story. We want to provide some programs for our younger audience and what could be a better way than listening to a story on our comfy bean bags and pillows!

This program is completely free gear towards kids ages 4 and up, but of course the whole family is welcomed! We would love for you to sign up for our class online but walk ins are welcomed!

Starting next week, we are having karate and music classes. They are available for registration with limited amount of spots. We are so excited to be partnering with some local businesses to offer some fun classes!

Take a Karate Class at the Mountainside Nature Center with Sensei April Perkins. Sensei April Perkins has been studying Martial Arts for 17 years. She is 3rd Dan in Kobayashi Shorin Ryu and Vice President of OSRKKA Karate Organization.

Antonio Fato is a lifelong musician that's been teaching for over a decade. His teaching style is focused on unique lessons for unique students, and appeals to students of all ages.
