Grades 2–3 visited Ponderosa State Park to learn from an interpretive ranger about Idaho’s bat species, their habitats, bat boxes, and the important role bats play in healthy ecosystems.

Grades 4–5 explored Tamarack Bay on Payette Lake, learning about invasive milfoil, macroinvertebrates, and how milfoil impacts water quality and aquatic ecosystem health.

K–1 continued exploring the meaning of community and what it means to be a community member, using art and puzzle pieces to represent how individual parts come together to create something beautiful.

From forests to lakes to the communities we build together, our students are discovering how everything is connected!

At MCS, we’re incredibly blessed to have such wonderful teachers, from kindergarten all the way through middle school.

Every single day, our teachers pour their hearts into their classrooms and give 100% to our students. They go above and beyond what’s required, creating a place where kids feel supported, encouraged, known, and inspired to learn.

Teachers truly are some of the heroes of our society, and we are so grateful for the love, patience, dedication, and passion they bring to our school every day.

Mushrooms, bubble wands, cats, team building and of course traditional learning. Yet another week filled with good times at MCS!

Our 4-5 class will be growing Mushrooms this fall as part of their decomposer study. They will be giving them to the culinary club to cook up for the school. This week they worked with local entrepreneur Cheyenne Jedry who owns Mountain Grown Goods

Week 3!

Our students have been making the most of these beautiful fall days, getting plenty of time outside and enjoying the last of the warm weather.

This week, our middle schoolers took a field trip to Toby’s Place as part of their study of medieval times. They’re currently designing and building their own castle, and they got creative by bartering with Toby’s Place for furniture and décor to help bring their castle to life!

And the learning doesn’t stop there. In exchange for the items they received, our students are helping process donations for Toby’s Place. They brought boxes back to the classroom, where they’ll work together to sort and process the donations.

We love seeing our students learn through real-world experiences, community partnerships, and projects that have a purpose beyond the classroom.

Meet Randall Nunz (Nunz), our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teacher at MCS!

Nunz brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and curiosity to our students. He truly loves what he does and is deeply committed to helping students learn, grow, and discover the world around them.

When he’s not in the classroom, you’ll likely find Nunz at his property—building, gardening, designing, working on projects, and simply enjoying life outdoors.

We’re incredibly grateful for Nunz and everything he brings to our school community. We love having him at MCS!

It’s been another fun week at MCS, and our students are starting to really jump into the rhythm of the school year! With the weather still cooperating, our classrooms have been taking advantage of every opportunity to get outside before the colder days arrive. Across our four classes, students have been exploring on nature walks, coloring outdoors, rock climbing, and finding plenty of ways to learn and play beyond the classroom walls.

Our 4th–8th graders have also been getting creative with a new sewing project! We’ve had a few talented community members come in to share their skills and help students learn the basics of sewing. The kids are already getting excited about their final projects — their own handmade bags for their mess kits. With grant money we purchased mess kits for 4th-8th grade students so they have their own silverware and dishes for both culinary club and camping. We love seeing students learn practical skills, try something new, and turn an idea into something they can actually use.

Who needs a traditional playground when you have trees, sticks, ropes, and a little imagination?

Our outdoor play space at MCS looks a little different. There’s a swing tied between two trees, a net tunnel, a zip line made from tie-downs, and forts built from sticks and branches…the possibilities are pretty much endless. A lot of it changes as the kids play, build, rearrange, and come up with new ideas. There’s something pretty special about watching them turn the natural world around them into a place to play.
