First 5K or fiftieth, the feeling at the start line never really gets old.
That little flutter of nerves and excitement shows up every time, and that's part of what makes racing so much fun.

The Boston Marathon has been happening every year since 1897. Fifteen brave souls started the first one. Around 30,000 line up for it today.
That's nearly 130 years of runners showing up at the same starting line. Somewhere in between is the story of how our sport went from a curiosity to a movement.

The Cary Greenways Tour benefits Cary's Play It Forward program, which helps local families cover the cost of Parks & Rec programs and youth sports.
Every kid in Cary should get to play, no matter what's in the bank.
We will be accepting donations and 100% of the Kids Dash fee will go to support this program too.
Run for yourself, and for a kid down the street too.

We've had some brutal heat this year, and summer's not done with us yet, so let's talk about staying safe out there.
Heat exhaustion first: dizziness, heavy sweating, a fast weak pulse, nausea, cramping. Feel any of that mid-run? Stop. Find shade. Drink water with electrolytes. Cool your skin down.
Heat stroke is different, and it's a 911 emergency. Watch for confusion, slurred speech or a sudden change in mental state, loss of consciousness, seizures, a very high body temperature, and skin that's either hot and dry or drenched in sweat.
Train smart, hydrate often, and look out for your fellow runners this summer. We want to see you at the finish line, not the ER.

Here's something worth circling on the calendar: this year, the Amberly Sugar Rush actually falls on Halloween.
Saturday, October 31.
Costumes are not just welcome, they're encouraged. We love seeing unicorns, superheroes, and whole families in matching getups cross that finish line together.
Start planning now, because this is your excuse to run in costume and have people cheer for it.
Sign up at https://bit.ly/4fUaRaV and get your Halloween off to a fun start!

Some days the run feels easy. Some days just getting out the door is the whole workout. Dean Karnazes gets it; showing up looks different every single time, and every version of showing up still counts.
Whatever pace today calls for, we're glad you're out there.

Live too far from Cary to make one of our in-person races?
Run it virtually from wherever you are. Same medal and gift (in the mail), same finisher's pride.
It's how we keep our community open to runners who live too far away to be here in person.

The temptation to skip the warm-up is real, especially on a morning you're pressed for time.
Don't.
A few minutes of leg swings, walking lunges, and an easy jog is the cheapest injury insurance you'll ever buy.
Save the static stretches for after the run.
