⛳✈️ Final Flight Fairways
Today, our 5th Grade Track 1 students proudly showcased the miniature golf course they designed and built using cardboard, creativity, and Hummingbird Robotics kits. Each hole featured a unique theme and a robotic obstacle programmed and engineered by our students, turning every putt into an exciting challenge!
Families joined us during the 5th Grade Picnic to play through the course, celebrate student innovation, and enjoy the incredible work our Aviators have accomplished. From brainstorming and designing to building and coding, students demonstrated teamwork, problem-solving, and engineering skills every step of the way.
Final Flight Fairways was the perfect way to celebrate our 5th graders as they prepare to spread their wings and take flight into middle school. We are so proud of all they have achieved and can't wait to see where their next journey takes them!

Our Dream Lab was shining bright during STEM Glow Week as students explored science and engineering in a whole new light!
Students designed and built glowing towers, bridges, and roller coasters, putting their creativity and problem solving skills to the test. Along the way, they investigated important science concepts such as changing states of matter and force and motion, discovering how science works all around them.
From hands-on experiments to collaborative engineering challenges, learning truly glowed this week! We loved seeing curiosity spark, creativity shine, and future innovators in action.

Mrs. Wadhwa’s first grade classroom transformed into a lively pizzeria, where students rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the role of bakers! 🍕
Through this hands-on experience, they explored partitions—whole, half, and quarter—by creating their own pizzas. Each student had to demonstrate their understanding by correctly dividing their pizza and adding toppings based on a recipe to earn their “job” at the pizzeria. It was a fun and memorable way to learn, and it’s safe to say our young bakers had a GREAT time!

Today, Ms. Cottone, Mrs. Kurtz, and third-grade students Olivia and Mayla proudly presented their project, Muscle Makers: Step Up The Community, at STEMposium held at SAS. Their work stems from Ms. Cottone and Mrs. Kurtz’s participation in SummerSTEM professional development through WakeED Partnership, where they focused on implementing project-based learning.
Representing their class, Olivia and Mayla explained how students coded micro:bits to track step counts, wearing them on their shoes to collect data during a typical week and again during a school-wide movement challenge they designed. With support from NC State athletes, students promoted the challenge across the school community.
After analyzing and graphing their data, students observed a clear increase in physical activity during the movement challenge. Their project ultimately explored the question: How can we make our school a more active place?
Students had the opportunity to share their findings with parents, students, teachers, and community members, including Superintendent Dr. Taylor and school board member Sam Hershey, who even joined in by wearing a micro:bit and participating in the movement challenge firsthand.
This project proved that even small steps can lead to big changes!
